July 3, 200520 yr Greetings All,Is it possible to specify the desired altitude for the Lear L-2 Autopilot contained in Milton Shupe and team's Beechcraft D18S? So far, all I have managed to figure out is to reach the altitude I want and maintain it by adjusting the relative pitch of the aircraft. Am I overlooking something or is this the way the Lear L-2 works? Thanks for anyone's help on this.
July 3, 200520 yr As far as I can figure, the autopilot is quite basic but don't forget that this is a very old a/c and doesn't have all the bells and whistles of todays masterpieces.Basically what it does when you engage the autopilot is maintain the current a/c attitude. so if you are climbing at say 1000 fpm then this will be maintained along with the heading. The heading can be varied by hovering and resetting the heading bug whilst the autopilot is still engaged. When you reach the desired altitude, turn off the autopilot, trim the a/c for level flight and then turn the autopilot back on. Hope this helps.
July 3, 200520 yr Thanks Frank for your response to my question. Yes, that clears it up for me on how to use the Lear L-2. This was the first time I had seen this particular autopilot.
