  1. What sad news to start the week. You are one of the stalwarts of this wonderful hobby of ours. Whenever we have had bad news regarding our hobby I have always come to AVSim first to read what old faithful Tom has to say and have drawn a sort of comfort from your wise words. Let's hope that you can now draw some comfort from the sympathetic messages pouring in here today! God Bless you.
  2. I would like to apply the trim modification but I do not know how to save an xml file. Is it just automatically saved or do I need to do a Control S?thanks guysFrank
  3. Thx Bill. It was just the very thing. Trouble is at 75 I can't remember what I had done the previous day, no kidding!!!!! :( Frank
  4. When I fired up FSX today I cannot see my plane in external views. I can see the nav lights but nothing else!Any ideas please?Frank
  5. Bingo George. I've found it and it is called Vroute Premium Flight Planner and it is payware. Thanks for your efforts but I had already tried the gmap 10.
  6. Thanks George but that was not the one. Its name has completely left my mind that's not difficult these days........I think that I shall become "Silver Surfer retd". But I think that it is a payware product.
  7. Hi guysOne day this week on the avsim home page, there was a new product announced that was a Flight planner/moving map type of product. I've forgotten what it was called...anybody help please?
  8. Hi GarettA great piece of work and a wonderful tribute to your Grandad. I am sure that he would be very proud of you. I live in Derby,UK the home of Rolls-Royce Aero Engines where I worked for most of my life. I was only a youngster in WW2 but if we went for a cycle ride which took us nearby the RR factory, we could hear the incessant but beautiful roar of Merlin engines on the test beds. The factory was of course a prime target for the Luftwaffe but because of several diversionary measures in place, the factory was only hit once and that was by an early morning daylight raider who got lucky with his air strike but surprise, surprise didn't make it home!I have just finished the first leg of the long haul to India and as my tribute to your Grandad (and all the other guys who must have made the same trip)I intend to finish it.My signature is the famous motto upon which Sir Henry Royce built his success and reputation. I instilled it into all the hundreds of young men who passed through my hands as Head of Apprentice Training at the Company from where I retired in 1992. And yes, I am a Grandfather as well. Well done
  9. Thank you .................it worked like a charm and it is certainly a useful tweak.
  10. Sorry to be a dumbo chaps but I have never modded an XML file before and I don't seem to be able to get that block into the file either by typing it or pasting it. Do you have to do it in a particular way?
  11. As regards the overall impression, I can only echo what earlier posters have said. Absolutely brilliant! The only 'snag' that I have is that in spite of following the Flying Guide I cannot get the AI a/c to show at West Malling. Just lonely old me and I was looking forward to doing a few circuits with the other Spits. I have the general a/c slider all the way over to the right. Any ideas please?
  12. Wow...that's cheap. It's approx
  13. I found them in the rc4x root folder on the c: drive. I will copy and move them to my fsx files in my documents where all my other flight plans are. Thanks for your very quick response but on this occasion I just beat you to it but no doubt I'll be back again;)
  14. Hi guysI am still very much a newbie with RC...only installed last week but I am sure that I will enjoy it as I get into it.I have been wading through the manual and have got to the bit about tutorials. Should these have been installed into my FSX flt plans because if so, they are not there?I have also spotted the tutorials on the website but cannot find where to d/l them. Can someone please point me in the right direction?
  15. Hi GeoffThanks for this link to what appears (Voyager- Free Flight) to be a very nice bit of kit. I have d/l same but I cannot get to use it because it needs me to input my DUATS reg details which being a mere FS guy, I do not have. How do I get round this? I realise that you are a qualified pp so I guess that you did not have a problem with this.
  16. Since applying SP1,when starting the game I get the following message:-SCENERY.CFG file error. Local scenery directory (Addon ScenerySCENERY) in Area.115 not found. Click OK to continue.I click OK and the game continues to load and plays well showing all of the improvements that are claimed for SP1. Should I be concerned and how can I install the 'missing files'?
  17. Hi guysHas anyone else noticed that the turning arc seems to be bigger in many a/c in FSX than in FS9? I am using CH pedals for rudder and brakes and I am happy that they are working correctly but even on full lock I don't seem to be able to make the taxiway turns as easily as previously. Does anyone have a solution to this ie can the a/c config files be tweaked?
  18. Totally agree with the last post. FS-MP is developing into a really great place to experience multiplayer in FSX. They have recently linked through Teamspeak to give you an opportunity to chat with the folks that you fly with but don't have a chance to develop the friendship whilst flying.Visit their forum to get a feel for the place...I think you will like what you find and will see the professionalism that goes into all that they do. They have a multi-aspect approach to the 'game' and although it is still early days in the scale of things you will find a Flight School, ATC training for those who want to go that route and special events such as a very recent re-creation of approx 30 DC3s doing a D-Day flight from England to France.Go and see for yourselves and make up your own minds. http://fs-mp.com/
  19. I seem to have developed exactly the same problem and it happened after I had installed the excellent RealAir SF260. I have also tried to 'reactivate' F9 key but like the originator of this thread, no luck.

  21. Thanks for the heads up guys. Very impressive.....the shot where he looks down and under the Maule's dash is incredible!
  22. the video won't play for me. All I get is a green screen but do hear the sound. Do I have to decode anything?
  23. I too love FSNav but we've got to wait!In the meantime, you can use the files recently posted in the avsim file library and have them on your desktop so you can readily access from the game. Just unzip the pdf files. Search for Winfried Orthmann in the FSX section. He has produced them for Europe, Canada, USA and Africa (and perhaps others).
  24. Hi guysI want to get a headset so that I can join in multiplayer, particularly in Flight Sim X. As I understand things, I can go for either a USB type or conventional plug in. I have on board sound AC97 (currently disabled) and Creative X-Fi Extreme which is my default s/card. If I go for a conventional headset, I understand that I will have to enable the AC97 and use this just for voice. What is my best option and what headset would you recommend?
  25. Hi guysI am fortunate in that I have had no issues with FSX apart from an initial inability to install it!We all have our secret dreams of places or things we would like to see.....mine has been the statue of 'Christ the Redeemer' in Rio De Janeiro. I'm not particularly religious but the location has always seemed breathtaking.Today whilst taking the 'Breakfast Flight over Rio' as described in the Insider Information booklet,I saw the statue and the whole experience was just as spectacular as if I had been there in person having resigned myself, at my age, to probably not making it for real. For this experience alone, I consider my
