New member with FSX problems

Featured Replies

Hi I am a new member to Avsim and look forward to reading all the valuable information in the forums. I have been having a number of problem with FSX which has caused my system to crash with fatal errors for a number of months. Today I found a video on you tube which I think has solved my problem and I would like to share with anyone who is having the same problems as I had.

My problem was that I had to do a factory reset due to other problems and when I reloaded FSX  certain keys on my keyboard caused a fatal error and took me out back to the desktop. I tried everything to fix the problem but nothing worked until I saw in the video that SP! had to be reloaded before reinstalling FSX. SP2 would be automatically reinstalled when the acceleration expansion pack was reinstalled.

I followed these instruction and Bingo everything now works perfect.

If anyone else is having this problem I hope this explanation will be of some help

Welcome to AVSIM. I do not understand exactly what you mean with the statement "until I saw in the video that SP! had to be reloaded before reinstalling FSX". SP! for Windows?

Here's how FSX was developed: FSX Basic or Deluxe. This was updated by FSX SP1. Acceleration was the next update to released. It contained both SP1 and SP2 (well Acceleration IS SP2). SP2 was released a few months later for those who wanted the freeware version of Acceleration. Microsoft released Acceleration first in hopes everyone would purchase it instead of waiting for the SP2 update later. Unbelievably, many waited until SP2 was released instead of paying something like $19.95 for Acceleration.

AVSIM has an excellent Crash to Desktop (CTD) Forum. AVSIM also has an excellent CTD Guide. The guide might be available above by clicking on Downloads but our system is under maintenance now and it may not be available. When our system is fixed, you should see a download link in the right hand column of the Forums under Hot Spots. I believe you can find Hot Spots on the Front Page of AVSIM now. AVSIM also has an excellent FSX Configuration Guide that will help you set up your FSX with settings that work for many members including me.
