How do I edit a default Microsoft fs2004 sound file?

Featured Replies

This question doesn't seem to fit in any particular forum.... so I'll try here.I am making changes to the AI sound files to make them more realistic. So far it has just been a number of name changes to files. Now I want to increase the volume of some existing AI sound files. It seems like to should be a simple matter of loading them into WinXP's sound recorder utility and hitting the "Increase VOlume 25%" button. Problem is that particular button is greyed out with these files.I can't seem to find a way in properties to "unlock" these files for editing. Any suggestions?

Drop the File menu down, select Properties and you will probably see the file format is ADPCM 4 bit Mono. To edit this in Sound Recorder you have to change the format to something like PCM 8 bit Mono. After editing you can either change it back to ADPCM 4 bit to reduce the file size or leave it as PCM.Fred

Fred,THANK YOU!!Being new to sound editing..... any suggestions about how I would change that filetype?

Well... I found that Sound Editor let me change the format. I then just hit "Increase Volume 25%" and then resaved in the original format and called the file the original filename. When in the sim the volume increase if NOTICEABLY better. However... the editing somehow added a slight "dead spot" in the sound files........ so there is a little "stutter" in the AI engine sounds.Otherwise it is awesome.SO no I have to figure out WHY the little dead spot got created.
