Lack of airports with towers- Alaska

Featured Replies

Recently started with P3D after flying FSX many moons ago.  Love the Orbx sceneries and I've been flying all around southern Alaska since I just came back from vacation there.  I'm using the Rex essentials for weather and typically the weather is pretty poor around there, so I've been working on my IFR runs.  The problem is I see only 2 airports with towers in all of Southern Alaska, Juneau and Anchorage.  I flew into Ketchikan and I know there's a tower there, but it isn't modeled on ATC.

I know there are a number of add-ons for ATC, but do they add tower communications to airports that are lacking in P3D?

Thanks

Ketchikan doesn't actually have a tower. It's a FSS on the field, kind of looks like a tower, and we joke that they kind of act like one too sometimes... But nope, no tower. It's accurate that the only towered airport in Southeast is Juneau. Juneau, Ketchikan, and Sitka FSSs assume much more of a role in IFR traffic management than FSSs do in the lower 48, coordinating aircraft arrivals and departures by time and position reports (not much low level radar contact up there). You'll talk to one of the FSSs in and out of places like Ketchikan, Sitka, Wrangell, Petersburg, Yakutat, Cordova, Gustavus, Valdez etc.

Thank you. Is FSS modeled in P3D? I usually contact Anchorage center, then I'm told to contact Ketchikan traffic, but I don't hear any instructions.
