P3D CTD and appcrash says it's "gaugesound.dll" I found other threads on this in FS9 and FSX, but nothing really specific to P3D. Anyone have any idea?

Look for the file in Gauges , if it is there it may be corrupt, I dont think it is a P3D default file , may be from an addon AC search for it withing P3D and reload the AC

As Jorge says, not a default file.

 

Usually the problem comes from using an aircraft not designed expressly for P3D. They are not all compatible. With that information you should be able to track down the offending addon and I suggest you remove it or take it up with the developer as they may have a different version for P3D.
