I mainly fly approaches (not airport to airport) from saved flights. Is it possible for ASN to create weather from a saved flight or a set airport (and surrounding area) without creating a flight plan from airport to airport?

Select historical weather and set time/date to match what you want. All the flight plan does is allow you to get briefings but the weather is still injected into P3D.

 

Or just fly in real time weather for any flight, saved or otherwise. A flight plan is not needed to get the weather.

ASN creates weather in the sim no matter what you do. Simply start ASN, start the sim, go somewhere and ASN provides the weather wherever you are. Simple as that. Flightplans aren't needed or mandatory. Flight plans are only needed for when you want to use the ASN menu during a flight to check the weather at your departure or destination airport.
