Where are the landing ai-planes?

Featured Replies

Hi!I`ve installed a lot of ai-packages, and the traffic is getting really busy now. But on some airports where I expect heavy traffic, both landing and departing, there seem to be almost none airplanes landing. For example, on Sheremyetevo (UUEE), I`ve many planes on the ground, but very few is landing. Also on Fiumicino (LIRF), there seem to be imbalance. But again on some other airports, the landing ai-planes comes often. So is this normal?Regards,Jan Ove

I think it's just the way FS functions, especially at the start of a flight you'll have more planes taking off than landing. However, if there are no planes landing, or they are disappearing on the runway, you need new AFCAD files with more parking to handle the planes.

Yes - if this is happening immediately after you load up your flight at the airport, it's because of the way FS calculates the position of AI flights at start-up (or so I've read in here).AI flights calculated as being at the airport are placed in the available parking slots. I understand this includes aircraft due to have started their departure 5 minutes BEFORE you you started FS.So when you start, there will be great rush of aircraft departing - all those due to start PLUS those due in the preceding 5 minutes.AI flights calculated as being in the air on the other hand are placed at their nominated cruising heights. Therefore, even those near to their destination have to descend before they can land - no AI flights are placed on approach. Therefore it will be several minutes at least before the first arrival occurs. So, the best way is to start FS, load up your flight, then leave it for a while, go away and have a cup of coffee and come back 10 minutes later when everything will have sorted itself out.If this is rubbish, it's because somebody else wrote it and I read it - but based on what I see in FS, I think it's right! If you have the problem of aircraft suddenly appearing at the gate without landing and taxying in, even after FS has been running a while, then thats another problem again.

What you write seems pretty reasonable to me. But still, the airports differ in to what extent there exist arriving aircraft. I understand that you have to wait a while, as you say enjoy a cup of coffee, before the arriving planes comes to sight. I`ve tried to fix the problem by adding lots of new gates, for example to UUEE (Moscow). The funny thing is that at UUDD (Domodeyevo) an airport some 30 miles away, there is lesser gates but more landing aircraft. And even within 10 minutes. But at UUEE no airlines dare to land. :)

Are you sure this is occurring at the same time of day? Depending on how the AI flightplans you are using are set up, some I guess are realistic enough to have a lot of departures in the early morning followed by even traffic until evening, when there are more arrivals than departures as short/medium haul aircraft return to their home base.I'm no expert on Russiain airports - sorry, my failing not Russia's!Which airlines operate from UUEE? Have you got flightplans for those particular airlines? If not, this could be distorting things. Also, how does your AI Traffic percentage work? If at Airport A, you have one airline with 100 aircraft, with its flight plans having random traffic percentages, and you set your AI to 49%, you will see just under half of the flights. If at Airport B you have 100 airlines with 1 aircraft each, and all of the flightplans are set to appear or disappear at 50% traffic (which is quite possible) then if you set your AI slider to 49% you won't see a single flight! This is pure guesswork, but if you have a lot of small commuter airlines based at an airport, let's say plus international arrivals from large foreign airlines, then the AI percentage could upset the balance. The answer would be to set the flightplan percentage for the commuter airlines to a low figure to ensure they actually fly. However, before you do this, I really would just set up your chosen airport and just let FS run for a good long while and just make sure you really do have a problem!

UUEE and UUDD landing AI aircraft depend totally on the flight plans you have installed.Have you loaded them yourself or do you use a program like MyTraffic or Ultimate Traffic? But my guess is:UUEE - mostly international airport - limited to long range flights by a variety of carriers (Intl on the north side - domestic on the south) - 19 gate parking spots in the default airportUUDD - mostly domestic airport - fewer airlines - many more flights - 36 gate parking spots in the default airportBTW - I think the backtiming might be 15min for the takeoff aircraft as it was in FS2002. The "disappear" time for inactive aircraft was changed from 15min in FS2002 to 5 min in FS2004 - at the request of thousands of users. The backtiming of AI behavior at startup is based on giving the Flight Simmer a "rush" of AI traffic at the start of the flight. When you add realistic levels of AI traffic - it is a bit too much. One issue which can make AI traffic not land at an airport is changing runway numbers from the default to "real" numbering. Approaches in FS2004 are used to decide how aircraft land - not runway information from a modified AFCAD file.UUEE has another problem - AI aircraft turning toward the center of the two runways will get stuck and disappear without clearance to taxi to the gate in the default airport.
