Apart from cpu, mobo, ram, will also be getting a new gtx 970. September 13, 201510 yr I just did exactly that; from i7 920 to i5 6600k. It worked fine. Just make sure you deactivate your addons before the switch. I had read it is best to reinstall, but I had no issues. By the way, my 6600k overclocked to 4.7 GHz and I get about 50% more fps. It is a beast, I love it!

Thanks mate, I have everything setup the way I want, cannot go through the agony of reinstall, configure again. Your experience has given me confidence it can be done. Deactivate addons? Any specific ones ? Or all of them. I have fsuipc, pmdg 777 flytampa sydney, airport enhancer, gsx and mce. September 13, 201510 yr Yeah I felt the same way. For deactivation, just the: * PMDG NGX and 777 (via the FMC under license) * FS Dream Team addons/sceneries via the addon manager (FSX menu). It's probably not critical to deactive, but those addons will sense a hardware change. Deactivating before a hardware change saves you an activation on your credits (I think you get like 5 before you have to contact the vendor). I was also worried about Windows 7 OEM activation, but I just had to press online validation and it worked fine (no repurchase required). I forgot to mention, when you first boot up Windows, have the motherboard driver installation disk and run the setup so it will go through the driver install process. After a few installs/restarts you should be up and running. Enjoy! I think you will be shocked by the difference.
