Limiting ATC voices?

Hi there, just recently I saw a post that mentioned installing less than the default 9 voices but I can't find that post anymore.I'm one of those ATC-stutter simmers that has tried everything (swapping sound cards/onboard, new drivers, decreasing sound acceleration within soundcard/directX) and I'm wondering if using less than those 9 voices that FS9 uses would decrease the ATC stutter I'm experiencing?I believe it can be setup during minimal install but I'm wondering if I can (I have a full install) find any limited ATC files on the original disks and replace them in my full install?Any help would be greatly appreciated.Cheers,Petehttp://members.aol.com/pzsoulman/myhomepage/logo.gifAMD64-3400,1GB/2700DDRAM,WinXP(SP2),DirectX9.0c,Geforce6800(128MB)(Det.71.89), CH Yoke/Pedals

Hi,Look for the .GVP file in your SOUND folder. It will have the word "big" in it (9 voices). On your FS CD there is a file with the same name but with "small" instead of "big". Swap those files and you will only have 3 voices.I highly doubt that this will make any difference in the stutters, though.Hope this helps,--Tom GibsonCal Classic Propliner Page: http://www.calclassic.comFreeflight Design Shop: http://www.freeflightdesign.comDrop by! ___x_x_(")_x_x___

Tom,wow, that was exactly what I was looking for, I really appreciate it. I doubt it'll help too but it's worth a try. Thanks again,Petehttp://members.aol.com/pzsoulman/myhomepage/logo.gifAMD64-3400,1GB/2700DDRAM,WinXP(SP2),DirectX9.0c,Geforce6800(128MB)(Det.71.89), CH Yoke/Pedals

Wow :-eek Believe it or not, I think I finally found a cure for my sound stutter. It actually worked. I replaced the file with the smaller one, however I did run it through editvoicepack afterwords, which made the file itself about twice the sice but still only about 1/3 of the "big" file and so far (I'm currently taxing around KPHL with 70% UT traffic going on a short IFR to KLGA in the Flight1 ATR) I'm really impressed.Just wanted to pass this on,Petehttp://members.aol.com/pzsoulman/myhomepage/logo.gifAMD64-3400,1GB/2700DDRAM,WinXP(SP2),DirectX9.0c,Geforce6800(128MB)(Det.71.89), CH Yoke/Pedals

Your suggestion seems to have solved my ATC stutter problem too! I too tried various other fixes without success. Thanks! For anyone else that has FS2004 and wants to try Tom's suggestion the .GVP files are on CD2 of the 4 disc set. Do a search of that CD for "USEnglishSmall.gvp" and when you find it right-click it and Extract somewhere (for future use). Then simply copy or cut (or Extract directly) to your "Flight Simulator 9Sound" dir and rename the "USEnglishBig.gvp" to "USEnglishBig.gvp.DISABLED" or something... or delete it.Works for me!:)JELB
