August 14, 200520 yr Yesterday I read Gene Davis' Computer Pilot review of the Flight1 Pilatus PC-12. I was intrigued, so I started reading around some on the web. I like to fly in the VC, but I'm stuck with a PCI video card, and I don't have a lot of framerates to spare. So I look hard for planes that are framerate friendly. In reading about the PC-12, I came across another Pilatus from Don Khun http://www.fs2x.com. It came out in May, but hasn't received much attention except for a thread here http://forums.avsim.net/dcboard.php?az=sho...ing_type=search What came out of that: fs2x Pilatus uses model, sounds, and airfile that were originally developed by Jacob de Churruca, who released them previously as freeware and gives his blessing to the current payware. Some mods to the above, but the main innovation here is new panel and avionics by Don Kuhn. Since it was first released, there is now a VC as well.Question: I know it's impossible to predict framerates for someone else's rig, but can anyone compare these two packages relative to one another? I know the Flight1 Pilatus is going to be more finely detailed -- but which is "faster" (i.e., which one steals less computing power from the rest of the sim)? For that matter, can anyone who's purchased the fs2x Pilatus comment on it?
August 14, 200520 yr I do not have the other, but I found the Flight 1 Pilatus to be really easy on framerates... Flight 1 does offer a 30 day money back if you are not satisfied... Hope that helps.
August 15, 200520 yr Nothing wrong with the freeware AFG aircraft in my book. The differences in the payware adaptation of the same thing probably don't justify its purchase for the casual user. It comes with a VC, too.Mark "Dark Moment" BeaumontVP Fleet, DC-3 AirwaysTeam Member, MAAM-SIM[a href=http://www.swiremariners.com/cathayhk.html" target="_blank]http://www.paxship.com/maamlogo2.jpg[/a] _________________________ Mark "Dark Moment" Beaumont VP Fleet, DC-3 Airways Team Member, MAAM-SIM
August 15, 200520 yr The fs2x version is very frame rate friendly. Plus it comes with an extremely sophisticated KLN90 GPS that can easily be added to other aircraft, as well as the PFD and MFD. The flight dynamics are also very nice. So for the price I think it is a nice little package!Erik
