Simulator Realism Is Here!

Featured Replies

I want to mention some R/C software called aerofly that I recently picked up that translates the feeling of realism to a simulation just about 100% all the time for me. This is something that happens on and off with Flight Simulator 2004 but for the most part the feeling is different from real life. I have been flying R/C planes on and off for the last 25 years as well as being a Private Pilot for the last 14 years. In all those years of Radio Controlled flying there were lots of things I wasn't willing to try to risk crashing another model as well as in real life to fly by the book. My current stable has 5 R/C planes - 2 electric - 3 glow fuel & 1 .30 size helicopter. Well, I can without hesitation tell you that this software is INCREDIBLE!!! It uses photo real backdrops for complete real environment as well as 3D rendered backgrounds if you want. Using the photo real scenery coupled with my real Futaba transmitter & screen setting of 1600 X 1200 & antialiasing on my 21" monitor the immersion factor has to be seen 1st hand to be believed. If you EVER WANTED to fly R/C or WANT TO IMPROVE your skills then you definitely need to check this out! I had RealFlight and there is no comparison frankly in my opinion except that it's like flying in Flight Simulator in RealFlight then going out to do the real thing in Aerofly. Now if we can get this for Flight Simulator, frankly I don't think I would want to leave the house! :-) Not to mention there are TONS of addons for scenery and aircraft like Flight Simulator and you can use photo real sceneries from MRC Reflex sim as well with a converter. Here is the developer link: http://www.aerofly.comCheck out some of these screen shots:http://www.aerofly.de/ssh-11-lg.jpg http://www.aerofly.de/ssh-04-lg.jpghttp://www.aerofly.de/ssh-12-lg.jpghttp://www.aerofly.de/ssh-14-lg.jpgCarmine http://forums.avsim.net/images/wave.gif

I took a quick look at Aerofly some months ago.... looks fantastic! But I was unsure as to whether or not you required an actual R/C transmitter to be able to play it. Can you use alternate means of control (e.g., mouse, joystick, et. al.)?

The picture with the A320 is incredible! Almost fell off my chair while holding my belly laughing with tears in my eyes *:-* :-xxrotflmao !Not that I don't respect the R/C hobby or so, no, not at all, it's just this picture of that model Airbus that looks so unreally funny! Great! Gimme more!!!! Yuck! Yuck! :-jumpyAndreas

You can purchase with either an adapter that you can use your own R/C transmitter or for about $20 - $30 more it comes with it's own black box R/C controller & as an alternative you can use your own joystick setups. I tried it with my CH Yoke & Pedals and it works just as fine as my Futaba controller but the Aerofly USB adapter has to be plugged in to work as well.Carmine http://forums.avsim.net/images/wave.gif

I wonder if my real flight controller will work?

Reduce the size of your screenshots.

Jim, Apparantly they do work and have read of others using them at rcuniverse.com. As far as I understand, you just need the main USB connection from Aerofly plugged in for the protection then you can assign all the control surfaces to the RealFlight stick.Edit: I found this on HeliHobby.com site "Choose between software with interface cable for JR / Futaba Transmitters ( you can also use a regular PC Joystick or the old G2 or real flight deluxe none USB version controller to use the software, or of course you can also use the keyboard but who wants to do that ? ) or get the complete version which comes with the commander ( a Joystick controller and software )."Hope it helps..Carmine http://forums.avsim.net/images/wave.gif

Sorry Edam I couldn't resize them, those are links to images from aerofly's website. The ones I made I attached to a different reply in this thread.Carmine http://forums.avsim.net/images/wave.gif
