Boeing 767 VOR Navigation

Featured Replies

I've got the Level D and found that I can't manually track VOR's in manual modes. It won't capture the VOR as a result.I'm told or believe that Level D say this is how the real aircraft is by I find this hard to believe.I'm curious to know if anyone who may really fly one of these aricraf can confrim how to manually fly VOR to VOR rather than having to enter in as a waypoint on the FMC. Assuming that is possible. Not trying to cause any waves or issues for anyone, just curious to find out how this really works?Regards,

The LDS767 behaviour is just like the real aircraft, believe it! If you want to fly manually to/from a VOR I'm not stopping you.;-)

This is the way the real thing works. If you want to fly VOR to VOR in the way you described, without using the FMC, you need to manually tune the VOR freq and then use heading select to track it on the RMI. No VOR hold button here I'm afraid. If you want the plane to track a certain radial, well, you need to use the FMC...

Thanks Guys, that explains it.Regards,

Yes, but I think the Boeing 767 will do a radial intercept. This is a function of the VOR as a geo-positional aid, (in the database) and not the Radio Frequency signal transmitted. I think it actially does this by creating a pusedo point distance waypoint which consists of a point, a bearing (radial) and a distance. From this point it then just 'LNavs" to the VOR. The VOR pointing arrow on the display is used for situational awaremess, not navigation, and is a function of the VOR signal. I am not sure if the LDS-767 has this feature modeled. Dennis

The LDS plane (and the real one also I suppose) can track a radial in the way you described. To put it simple, just enter the identifier of the VOR as a direct-to waypoint in your flightplan LEGS page, and then add the intercept track (track in degrees you want the plane to fly toward the waypoint). This will do the same thing as if you were intercepting an actual radial. It's just done by intertia navigation and is more precise.

Hi,I have read before that it

Say you want to fly to the Brickyard VOR, type VHP in the scratchpad, and insert it at LSK 1L. When you do that you'll see an INTC CRS or similar message pop up around LSK 4R or 5R. That is where you type in your intercept course (radial). Type in the course, execute the mod, hit LNAV on the MCP if you're not already in it and you're ready to go, well, most of the time.
