Wnidows ME feature in XP?

Featured Replies

I know that many people bag Windows ME -- but when I used it for a couple of years, I was quite happy with it.But anyway, one of the "features" of ME was that the OS was supposed to detect which programmes you used the most and slowly move them towards the front of the Hard-drive for quicker access. Something like that. Does anybody know if XP prioritises the position of programmes in a way like that? Thanks Barry

I believe this is the Pre-fetch function, and it is indeed present in WinXP. IIRC it's enabled by default, but I can't say how effective it is.BTW it doesn't actually move the files on the hard drive, it creates '.pf' files which are copies of recently or regularly used files.Try searching www.microsoft.com for 'prefetch'
