September 4, 200520 yr I have been flying GA aircraft for the last 6 months or so, but after getting hooked on Vatsim, I am now using larger or a bit faster aircraft. My 3 favorites are the Aeroworx B200,the PMDG 737 , and the one I usually fly on Vatsim the Flight 1 ATR. Now here is my question, does anyone else besides me feel more comfortable flying the same aircraft all the time, rather than switching from one to the other? With the GA aircraft, it wasn't really too much of a problem, since the cockpits are all rather simple. The more complex aircraft seem not to be as easy to switch from one to the other. I personally find that when I just fly the ATR, I feel really comfortable and everything is like second nature. Now if I get out the PMDG or the B-200, all of a sudden, I find myself stumbling around the cockpit looking for the right switch, or speed, or menu. Then a couple of weeks on the King Air, and the ATR feels strange. I am starting to think that maybe the " Jack of all Trades, Master of None" philosophy is appropriate here, and maybe I should leave 2 planes in the hangar, and focus on flying one, really well. Anyone else find this to be true?
September 4, 200520 yr Author Hi BobI couldn't agree with you more. I've always tried to stick to one complex aircraft and really get to know it, in the same way that a real pilot would. In FS2002 it was the PSS A320. Then the PMDG 737 was my chosen mount. But recently there have been so many tempting new addons that it's all becoming a bit confusing - first there was the ATR then the LDS 767, and then the 747. I'm now debating whether to get the Aeroworx B200 because I'm a bit bored with the Boeings, and I've never really 'clicked' with the ATR.It's a hard life, ain't it? :D Ian
September 4, 200520 yr Hi guys. In some ways I have the opposite problem: For the past several months I rotated among 3 acft: the Flight1 172, the FDS Commander 115TC, the Dreamworks Bonanza A36. I've been trying to get proficient in these singles, especially the 172, as I plan to start RW lessons soon. However I recently bought the Aeroworx B200 for the challenge and entertainment (and ablility to tackle flight plans that involve longer distances in the short amount of time I have to fly each weekend). Trouble is: Once acquiring the B200 I can't stop flying it! Great acft and a wonderfully supportive staff. It is a challenge and I've yet to pull off a flight I feel completely great about, so I just keep climbing back on the horse for another... I dusted off the 115TC recently to fly a route I had flown in the B200, just to remind myself that I DO know how to land flawlessly..but the lure of the B200 still sucked me back..
September 4, 200520 yr I have over 300 planes in my FS hangar (:-eek), and so I tend to swap from one plane to the next. My planes range from simple props to addons such as the PMDG 737NG and the PSS Airbus aircraft. However, I really don't care for printing 300 pages onto A4, and I've only managed to print the PSS Airbus manuals :-lol. Quote from MS Flight Team Lead: "We’ve made some guesses"
September 5, 200520 yr I'm part of the 'get to know a plane in depth school'. I used to flit from one to the other but that's kind of novelty chasing, if you know what I mean and eventually leads to boredom I think. With state-of -the-art addon aircraft like the PMDGs, the LDS767, FI ATR, B200, etc. etc. it almost behoves us to do them justice by getting to know them in depth. I've just got into VATSIM too, and have discovered that if there's one place you need to know your aircraft well, it's online flying.
September 5, 200520 yr Author As a footnote to my post above, I've just got the Aeroworx B200 - and I think I've found my perfect FS aircraft. Absolutely beautiful. It looks really neat, flies well and I can cope with all its systems without getting a headache. It's fast enough to actually get somewhere and it's just so much more manageable than the larger aircraft, which for me makes it more satisfying.I think I'm going to get to know this baby REALLY well!Ian
