Hi All

 

I'm not quite a newbie but its been a long time since i played FS and i'm really excited to be back. I about to purchase either FXS on disc but i have now seen you can get this on steam. The question i have is if i purchase the steam version will i be able to purchase and use most of the add-ons available or should i keep to the disc version

Not sure where you can buy FSX/Acceleration on disk anymore.  FSX-SE is the way to go if you cannot find the FSX/Acceleration disks or FSX Gold which includes both FSX/Acceleration.  I haven't searched recently but the last time I looked, it was impossible to find FSX Gold so everyone is moving to FSX-SE (which is FSX Gold but on Steam).  Most FSX addons work with FSX-SE.  Products are being updated to be fully compatible (i.e., there is an installer for direct installation into FSX-SE).  You might also look at Prepar3D by Lockheed Martin which is also a glorified FSX.
