September 21, 200520 yr Hi all. I have downloaded and installed the new smoke effect for ai planes. My problem is that when the aircraft land and taxi to the gate the smoke is hovering over them until it get to the gate and shuts down it's engines. Help if you can. Thanks in advance.
September 21, 200520 yr Hi,It's a known bug, and it's mentioned in the original package's text file. AFAIK there is nothing you can do.Interestingly, at certain airports (LAX) this doesn't always happen to me.Hope this helps,--Tom GibsonCal Classic Propliner Page: http://www.calclassic.comFreeflight Design Shop: http://www.freeflightdesign.comDrop by! ___x_x_(")_x_x___ Tom Gibson CalClassic Propliner Page
September 22, 200520 yr Author Commercial Member Howdy,I haven't installed those particular effects yet but for my own AI setup I use Light Type 5, the landing lights, to trigger the smoke effects. Using these means the smoke effect will start once the aircraft rolls onto the runway before takeoff and stop after the aircraft leaves the destination runway. That is, no smoke trailing the AI while taxiing. The drawback is that landing lights don't stay on all the time during a flight. Thus, an AI at cruise altitude will probably not show the smoke effects. However, I'm most likely to "enjoy" those effects when watching AI take off and land so I don't mind.Another option might be the Beacon Light Type (1); it comes on at the same time the landing lights come on and probably stays on all the way to the hold-short line of the destination runway. Not sure what Nick's effects currently use. To change/experiment change the first value in the LIGHTS setting that triggers the smoke effect to landing lights or beacon lights, as in light.x = 5,... or light.x = 1,...Cheers, Holger
September 22, 200520 yr Hi,His effects use the beacon. BTW, the beacon comes on when the engines start, and shuts off when the engines stop (at least on my system).Using the Landing Lights is an interesting idea - I'll have to try it.Thanks,--Tom GibsonCal Classic Propliner Page: http://www.calclassic.comFreeflight Design Shop: http://www.freeflightdesign.comDrop by! ___x_x_(")_x_x___ Tom Gibson CalClassic Propliner Page
September 22, 200520 yr Author Commercial Member Hi Tom,thanks for the feedback! Actually, I should have double-checked my aircraft.cfg's before typing because I'm actually using the Strobe Light, Light Type 2, for most of the smoke effects, not Type 1.Thus, for a jet engine AI I'd use:Light Type 1 for an engine glow effect: on, as long as engine is onLight Type 2 or 5 for smoke (and afterburner) effects: on from T/O clearance to destination runway roll-off.Cheers, Holger
