hell weekend with a burned SSD now trying to do an image restore

Well my Windows10 SSD lost contact for good in Bios so i desided to replace it with an HDD that was used for other games and reformatted it and did a clean W10 install.

 

But when i try to rebuild my image i keep getting the "The Disk that is set to active in BIOS is too small to recover the original System Disk. Try replace it with a larger one and retry the restore"

 

The new HDD is 279GB and the old one SSD was 128GB so i dont know what to do

 

The image has C:(SSD128GB) Windows 10  and another Drive called D:(465GB) in cooperated. On the D drive there was some boot files and a pagefil.sys of 3056MB and that it.

 

 

Its along long road if i have to rebuild from scratch (3 month at least)

I quick google shows that you might have to shrink you C: partition.

Sounds odd, but given how Microsoft works (or not), it might work out.

Thanks but its way out of my league.

 

It is sad when you have everything up and running with 3.2.

 

If its not possible to go back i will consider a Ssd drive again for P3DV3.2 allthough alot with Asus Z87-Pro have ssd issues

It's actually not that difficult.

The following link describes how to do it. Once it's done, and you've successfully restored Windows, you can expand the partition again.

Thanks but i guess its because i dont understand why my c drive(not the system reserved right?) need to be smaller because i get a message that i need to increase the volume?

I Think i will just try with another installation and maybe get an EVO850 500Gb SSD hoping my Z87-Pro will accept it and was wondering since i do have a complete P3DV3.2 catalogue on a seperate drive with all the adjustment. Do i really need to reinstall all this again?

Hi everyone ,

 

Maybe some of this information can contribute or help you out before making an image of your drives for a later restore.

 

First thing first: I am only using the inbuild windows 7 restore/image program (for now) 

 

My SATA II Corsair 128GB SSD drive used for W10  is now completely  un-detected in BIOS and in Windows10  so i must guess something has happened to it. All power cables sources etc has been checked and BIOS resets ,battery etc.. 

 

Lessons learned i guess but here is a reminder to me and others when making images and installation  from Windows 7/10 .

 

It seems that my boot sector was originally installed on my larger D:(465GB) drive instead of my C:(SSD128GB) drive. by Windows 7 or 10 i dont know since i upgraded back then directly for free.

 

That would make my D: drive (Active) as well as C: where windows is originally installed.

 

What i did not know was that when i took my last image i included the D: drive because of those files but they also contributes to a Windows 7/10 phenomenan that you can only install your image to an equal size HDD or larger.

 

That explains why my 279GB Raptor is not allowed for the backup.

 

I have now installed a clean Windows 10 Pro on this drive and will stay with it.

 

So lesson learn is :"Unplug any other HDD before installing a fresh clean Windows so your bootsector stays on your same drive.

 

I have just ordered a 500GB SSD Samsung EVO850 as i am hoping i can use this for a fresh P3DV3.2 installation tomorrow. I have a single SATA 6 Intel port (Port 3) ready for it. I just hope that my Z87-Pro is being friendly with me. :wink:   

 

 Now you guys has more than one SSD on your system i know that so please educate me on this part.

 

As long as the SSD drive is to be used for DATA it should be able to be detected in BIOS and Windows on ANY SATA 6 Intel ports right ?
