October 12, 200520 yr I was wondering if anyone has found a way to stop the ATIS display from repeating itself.I get three or four (or more) replays along with the audio of course. If I have accidently hit the ATIS choice this can be most annoying. Is there a way to stop it if I don't want to see and hear it once it has started and/or have it only give me the message once - not 3 or 4 times? Thanks in advance for any ideas.David "Opa" Marshall
October 12, 200520 yr Well, my last time with ATIS was real world, where it repeats to the point of distraction, until I punch it off of the audio panel.ATIS repeats, that's the nature of it. Unless you mean you are getting "words twice", meaning "Altimeter 2992, Altimeter 29.92". If that is the case I cannot be of help, and that is a problem, but if it is just the entire ATIS message repeating, that is normal, and you just have to kill it on the audio panel or switch the COM that it is tuned into to another frequency. Always works that way for me in real life, and in FS.Regards,http://www.dreamfleet2000.com/gfx/images/F...R_FORUM_LOU.jpg
October 12, 200520 yr Author Thank you very much!I don't know why I did not think of that - too obvious I guess.Changing to another com stops the audio but the scrolling message continues for several repeats. I was hoping to find a way to kill that part also but I can certainly live with it if that is not possible. Thanks again.
October 12, 200520 yr The scrolling message will likely repeat for the same number of instances as the spoken message. If it's running late that can take a while. Maybe try rightclicking on the green bar and closing it, don't know if it will reappear though.
October 12, 200520 yr You can get Pete Dowsons ADV Module which puts that scrolling text in a undockable bos you can move to where ever you wish.
October 12, 200520 yr Or, for a more "real world" experience, turn off the text message altogether and just listen to the audio. R-
October 12, 200520 yr HI David. I tune ATIS by hand and it makes this issue mute (pun intended). I also find it more realistic. Here's the procedure I use: During preflight I tune the ATIS/ASOS for the local field in COMM1 as a I begin setting up the NAVs, flight planing, and departure planning. I then tune Ground in COMM1 STBY. I also tune local tower/CTAF in COMM2, make it active, and punch it up on the audio panel so I can hear it also. (I like listening to traffic in the area to get better sense of situational awareness. At busy airports I can hear takeoff and landing, at smaller mostly nothing.) I then tune my destination ATIS in COMM2 STBY. When I have jotted the local ATIS info down for planning purposes, I just swap the COMM1 frequency (ATIS is now in STBY COMM1 and shuts up.) From then on, I can use the ATC menu choices, which go directly into COMM1 without touching STBY. At run up, when it is time to contact tower, select Tower from the ATC menu (or tune it in COMM1 directly myself--my preference) and I swap COMM2 (destination ATIS tuned/local tower in STBY) to prevent an echo (otherwise tower will be tuned in both COMMs). I usually also turn off COMM2 in the audio panel, to prevent destination ATIS from coming alive right in the middle of an ATC transmission on COMM1 (it always does, it seems triggered internally by a common mechanism). Once at cruise, <60 miles out and ready to begin planning descent I turn on COMM2 in the audio panel and destination ATIS begins broadcasting immediately usually. I take note of the active and other things then swap the frequency with destinaion tower (hear desitnation comings and goings when in range). I swap one more time when closer just to be certain nothing has changed ATIS-wise and then when ready to contact tower I turn off COMM2 in the audio panel to shut it up for good and use COMM1 from then on.
October 13, 200520 yr Author I don't believe I familiar with the module to which you refer - the ADV module. Is it a part of FSUIPC or something else - and where can I find it?
