October 12, 200520 yr Hello fellow simmers! I'm completely in love with the bush flying after I purchased new comp that can handle all the glamorous graphics and effects. :-coolI have recently bought the DHC-2 Beaver from Aerosoft, and oh boy it is fantastic! Nothing is more enjoyable for me than manouvering in the steep valleys of BC, (I have downloaded numerous meshes btw) and trying to land that overloaded Beaver to the small airstrips of the area. :7Anyway, to the point: My only problem would be that I'd like to navigate "the old way"; dead reckoning etc, but I lack of usable maps. I found that the FS's own map is really good for that, but the thing that annoyes the cr** out of me, is the you-are-excatly-right-here-no-need-to-navigate- icon on the map. Is there any way to remove this?If there isn't, I will need maps from elsewhere. Could someone recommend good sites for free and accurate maps in the BC area? Thanks in advance and happy landings!
October 12, 200520 yr Hi - Try using FsNavigator instead - much more useable than FS9's own map. FsNavigator has a plane icon, but it can be switched off.Schofi
October 13, 200520 yr Moderator Well, yes there is a way to remove the "aircraft symbol," but as it involves "un-CABing" the default GPS to a sub-folder and renaming the bitmap, it's probably more work than you want... ;) Fr. October 13, 200520 yr Hi:For BC charts, take a look at this site... (download the CAP2 file.)http://bathursted.ccnb.nb.ca/vatcan/fir/edmonton/charts.htmlRegards,Neil(jncameron)
October 14, 200520 yr I completely agree about FS navigator. I use it for ded reconing myself since one can quickly obtain the mag variance, distance, and lat/log of any airport or naviad as well as comm frequencies etc. The vaues used are those embedded in the FS, rather than real world (in some cases they differ a slight bit).
