does anyone have access to a performance manual for the c-47?

 

i know this aircraft lends itself well to 'eyeballing' the fuel but i was curious about trying some max range atlantic crossing type flights and it is significantly easier to do the wind calculations in pfpx. so i made a quick and dirty pfpx profile for it using some test values i gathered.

 

it seems to work ok, i am getting results that match within a few percent, but i know these numbers aren't perfect, in fact the fuel flow numbers seem to kind of be a random error sampling of the inaccuracy of my throttle lol. in the end it shouldn't matter much as for a given profile the total variation i was seeing at different altitudes and weights was only a few gallons per hour.

 

anyway if someone is interested in checking the numbers to add more datapoints, or wants to help do some other temperatures or cruise profiles, plz let me know.

to use this profile copy the text into a file named 'douglas c-47.txt' and save it in your Documents/PFPX Data/AircraftTypes folder.

then create new aircraft in pfpx (add new...) and choose it from the dropdown and voila

 

the profiles i included for cruise are:

1. default of 2325 rpm at 31" map, this is the 'cruise' defined on the placard above the co-pilot instruments

2. 2050rpm at 30" .. this is the cruise mentioned in the manual i think it is basically the LRC but i don't know

3. 2050rpm at 30" ..same but with carb heat on.. mainly i was just curious how the performance compares if you are forced to use carb heat for a lot of the trip. turns out it is a bit slower but more efficient fuel-wise
