Strange problem

Featured Replies

Hi all.I am having a very annoying problem. When I fly over northern Scandinavia, mostly Finland and Sweden, suddenly the screen goes black for a few seconds, then the "MSFS has detected a fault and shuts down" message appears, and then desktop! :-(If I then start up again, move the plane to the "crash site", and load the same flightplan again, I can make the rest of the flight without any crashes.I can

Yea, I had the same or simlilar problem...never got an answer to my problem, so lets see if I can help.Fist, I have all the Finnish, Swedish, and Norwegian freeware airports downloaded. The problems most likely is if the Finnish files. I stated getting 'screwy' things happening the first time I went from Noray to Ivalo Finland.Make sure you do not have duplicates of the FISD library in both the FISD folder, AND the individule scenery files. That seemed to be my biggest problem. Also, make sure you have Finnish Terrain, FISD library, and the airports in the correct scenery order in FS. This can also be a problem. Your various Finnish airport sceneries should be 'at the top', then FISD library, Finnish Terrain, and Finnish Landclass. I repeatedly did searches for all individual FISD files and looked for duplicates, only keeping the FISD folder files. This was quite frustrating, as some of the individule airport scenery files included the FISD files and it was easy to get duplicates. It would have probably been wiser if each scenery designer had left these out and directed you to install the library as an additional file/folder. Look in each Finnish scenery instructions, and really make sure you have everything set-up correctly. Never had a problem with any Swedish sceneries that could not be resolved fairly easily. The Norway airport package is also straight forward, except it seems they have included many navaids in their files which 'over write' the FS navaids when the scenery is active. Not a big problem, but a bit of a issue when I fly the ES Cirrus with the 'glass cockpit' map....the VOR's do not like to display very quickly, and hardly ever show up in the 'nearest' section of the GPS.Hope this helps you get started figuring it out....this is a great area to fly, especially Norway, and once all the files are put in their place properly you should not have any problems.

Thank you very much for your answer. I will start to search my scenery libraries for duplicates. I think you

Good luck Jan, and take your time going through each scenery file. I hope this is your issue as well.I was so baffled, I finally re-installed FS9 from scratch....only to see the problem return. Finally I think I have everything sorted.FYI: When I re-installed everything, I also took the time to sort all my 'third party' scenery files into folders by seperate country, and keep all my 'add-on' scenery stored outside FS. The only files I put in the FS directory are the ones specifically asked to be placed there. IMO, organizing things this way makes solving these issues a bit easier.Norway has to be one of the best kept secrets for great flying...the airports along the coast are outstanding surrounded by mountains...some fairly challenging approaches!Have fun,Brian

OK - problem solved! Partly. After uninstalling/deleting FinnTerrain and Finn Masts, the problem is gone. Now I can take it from here. Don

Good to hear Jan.I never downloaded or installed Finn Masts, so cannot speak to that. I believe my biggest problem was duplicate FISD files, which not only crashed FS, but also started giving me video problems...as if they were using all my video memory...losing textures, etc. I even found one of my FS 'tree' textures had lost the 'p' at the end of .bmp which gave me 'ghost tree dynamic objects'. Very strange, but again, the FISD files (I believe) also have tree files that seem to 'supersede' some FS files when flying in an area, and I think the duplication was really causing problems. But I also realized I had the Finn Terrain in the wrong priority, and changed that as well. After all that, I had no problems.I did download a scandanavian mesh (freeware) for the area, as my FSGenesis stops at the lower Sweden area. I took it out and never reinstalled it. I continued through Finland without problems. Whether that mesh and Finn Terrain were causing problems together is unknown, as I finally left things alone.But...my Finn Terrain seems to be fine now, so perhaps there is another conflict going on there, or you might check your scenery priority one more time. Finn Terrain gets loaded as any other add-on scenery and is 'self-contained', so it's easy to disable....glad to help, as I could not get one response to my issue, even after posting a thread in the forum on FS Nordic.
