Anyone using MyTraffic 2006

Featured Replies

I was just about to buy UT from flight1 when I saw the release of MyTraffic 2006 on the front page.I was wondering if anyone was using it yet and what they thought so far.I know it's still early days but I didn't want to jump in feet first with MyTraffic instead of UT without some user info.RegardsDavid GAFG

UT just has airliners. They look better and are more detailed and are supposed to run realistic schedules.MyTraffic has lots and lots of planes.Commercial, general and military and did I say lots of em. The models are simplified to help frame rates.IMO- I do not sit and stare and planes and from a distance could care less about detailing.Do not care about realitic schedules.Wanted general aviation planes at the smaller airports and military and the airbases.I like lots of planes and UT killed my framerates. So I deleted UT and went with My traffic and never looked back.BTW- Only had 2006 for a day but it appears the same but with more aircraft types and user options. Also a feature to time warp and load planes from earlier eras. I have not tried this yet.

I haven't looked at MyTraffic 2006 yet, but have purchased Traffic 2005 and Ultimate Traffic and MyTraffic 2004.The differences come down to schedules and models in my opinion. If "realistic" schedules are important:Ultimate Traffic - realistic schedules - with the updates as good or better than MRAI or any others on the web overall - some individual airlines might be more upto date since UT creates schedules for the same week worldwide. My Traffic 2004 and Traffic 2005 use a variation of the Microsoft TrafficDatabaseBuilder program to produce their schedules based on airport capacity and such. In my opinion, Traffic 2005 does a better job of putting the right airlines at the right airports. If models are important:The early versions of many of the FS Painter models and the PAI models were used by each package. You really cannot compare framerates without comparing the number of AI aircraft in the total airspace, and the number in the visual range.Traffic 2005 introduced a complete set of revamped models with 5 or 6 LOD for every model. I assume that My Traffic has done something similar. Both should be "better" on framerates than the older models used by Ultimate Traffic - though I'm expecting an upgrade of Ultimate Traffic soon. Nothing official I've seen but they have to update the models to keep up with the other two packages. Both MyTraffic and Traffic 2005 have a better mix of GA models adding several to the default models - MyTraffic has the option of military models. Both have newly updated helicopters.Personally I recommend that once you have any of these three packages up and running, you replace the default commercial models with some of the fantastic AIA, EvolveAI, etc models available. You might also want to look at Henry Tomkiewicz's great Cessna SE package - http://www.htaimodels.com/ - only $15 - for 57 visual models - with over 380 repaint/model combinations included.

Thanks for the info guys. I'm not really one for sticking to schedules I just want a bit more traffic. I tend to fly GA a fair bit so MyTraffic sounds like the better option. Can you add the schedules and airline repaints from ProjectAI etc to MyTraffic?David

But I got a refund on UT and went back to MyTraffic. Huge with lots of planes of various sorts.

Well I've installed MyTraffic2006.Most of the models have been redone and look better. Still some very high in polygon count - but almost all are 6 or 7 LOD.The biggest disappointment is that he still uses Krzysztof Malinowski's C-5 Galaxy. It's a great CFS2/FS2002 aircraft, updated - but at almost 40,000 polygons and only 1 LOD - it only takes two or three to bring the FPS to a crawl. The C-141 still has those horrible 20 foot tall US AIR FORCE letters. The biggest thing which bothers me about MyTraffic 2006 and Traffic 2005 is that the texture maps only use about 40-50% of the available area. While it may make repainting easier - it guarantees a significant lack of detail.I must say that MyTraffic 2006 makes it relatively easy to replace some of their models with others - it took me only about four minutes to replace the default C-141 with Henry T's excellent AI model.I also really like the Technical Appendix - with every repaint for every airline listed - wish more folks would do that.

I usually try to avoid the major aiports when running high ai but decided to see how 2006 ran in the northeast.I flew into Newark on the LD-767 and around the OM my FPS dropped to 8-10! This is ai at %50. Cant land like that so I tried 25%. No change. Finally dropped it to zero and the fps jumped to 18-24 locked.Thats a huge hit especially on the upper end heavy metal planes. Not nearly as bad on the smaller planes and very little on most freewares or basic planes.Im running a AMD 3500+ 7800GTX 512 PCIPS- Just flew into Atlanta on the Flight 1 727 and the fps remained locked at 25 with a quick dip for a few seconds over the numbers to 17. Thats with traffic at 25%. Even at that setting I saw at least 6 planes holding to take off and another dozen or so taxiing. I cant imaging cranking up ai over 50!
