What can cause an engine fire during flight?

 

I was flying the DO228 the other day and during approach the left engine suddenly indicated a fire. I turned the fire handle and shut down the left engineand managed to land with one engine. However I couldn't stop the fire warning alarm and I have no idea what caused the fire or how to prevent it in future. Can anyone advise what could such occurance in this aircraft?
