December 26, 200520 yr i have a wondeful DC9 and a 727 both with prehistoric autopilots. would anyone care to enlighten me on how to operate them? the altitude hold or the altitude setting gauge where you set the altitude, always slams me into the ground and yes i made sure i had a positive rate of climb. it's got a little pitch wheel on the attitude indicator that controls the VSI but that seems to be a dangerous little knob. anyway, can't seem to hold altitude at all. not sure if you it will fly a flight plan or not with the Nav and GPS switches. there is some sort of GPS switch but not sure how it works. both aircraft are great hand fliers but would like to know how to work the autopilot. i've played with it enough but not getting anywhere with it so thought i'd ask here. thanks, william
December 26, 200520 yr Commercial Member I guess it all depends on which aircraft you're using, some have more accurately programmed AP's than others and some have better assistance in their manuals than others too ;-)Neither of them should be able to control VSI, so there's a clue.http://www.dreamfleet2000.com/gfx/images/F...BANNER_PAUL.jpg Cheers Paul Golding
December 26, 200520 yr hi paul, the 727 is from vistaliners and the DC9 is SGA so both are quaility aircraft. the panels are from quaility designers also. i am aware the autopilots are basic but as simple minded as i am i'm still having trouble. i don't think the problem is with the autopilot as much as it is with my understanding of them. william
December 26, 200520 yr they didn't come with any. guess i might have to download a manual somewhere. i know some freeware come with detailed manuals included but these don't. thanks for the reply allcott. william

If you used the Richard Probst panel for the 727 there is an extensive manual. In fsfsconv in the aircraft folder, IIRC. If you didn't use the Probst panel, well why not? It's got a manual!Allcott
December 27, 200520 yr Commercial Member Oh, I've got an idea...................maybe that would be a bit blatent?http://www.dreamfleet2000.com/gfx/images/F...BANNER_PAUL.jpg Cheers Paul Golding
December 27, 200520 yr Obvious, yes. Blatant? Never.:-)Anyway, I don't have the DF 727, so I couldn't possibly say!:)Oh OK, I'll ask. "Does the DF727 (`soon to be updated!`) have a manual, Paul?"Now THAT'S blatant! :DAllcott
December 27, 200520 yr Commercial Member Oh, well as you asked......yes.In fact there's a 69 page Tutorial Manual, a 96 page Quick Reference Handbook and a 211 page Aircraft Operating Manual. I may as well carry on to say the DF727 includes the most accurate Sperry SP50 Autopilot yet seen in FS ........ maybe that last bit just took me from obvious to blatant?http://www.dreamfleet2000.com/gfx/images/F...BANNER_PAUL.jpg Cheers Paul Golding
December 27, 200520 yr Yes, I think it probably did! }(But it's still more entertaining than `bump`!:-waveAllcott
December 27, 200520 yr i'm using ken mitchells 727 panel. just downloaded some manuals for the greatest airliners 727. william
December 27, 200520 yr Commercial Member That won't help......sorry.http://www.dreamfleet2000.com/gfx/images/F...BANNER_PAUL.jpg Cheers Paul Golding
December 27, 200520 yr Commercial Member It should have been last week, but there was a bit of glitch with the installer, so this week with luck.I don't even have it installed at the moment as I'm on to pastures new ;-) Well that and the fact I've just done a fresh FS install so I can check the 727 installer when it's done :-)http://www.dreamfleet2000.com/gfx/images/F...BANNER_PAUL.jpg Cheers Paul Golding
