December 30, 200520 yr Hi all,First of all i would thank developers of the Project Fokker, absolutely the best freeware aircraft ever released (in my opinion).But... i have a very annoying problem...When i reach about 23000/25000ft the aircraft just begin stalling. The speed rapidly decreases so the plane pulls up the nose...It's just something like the engines "can't" push the aircraft over that altitude. This happens mostly with Autopilot engaged (without i can handle this pausing climb time by time).Anyone had this problem?Thanks in advance.
December 30, 200520 yr During the climb, I assume you have the autopilot engaged, the target altitude entered and the "alt" button selected. As the aircraft climbs past FL200 or so, are you reducing the vertical velocity to maintain IAS? The default for the Fokker is 1800 fpm, but if you just leave it at that, the plane will gradually slow and approach a stall as you describe. It's best to keep an airspeed (IAS) of at least 250 knots throughout the climb. As an aircraft nears it's maximum altitude, it's not unusual for the rate of climb to be reduced to 500 fpm or less while holding a constant IAS.Dale Dale
December 30, 200520 yr I did a quick test with the F100:Took off and maintained runway heading, 2500 f/m climb at 250 knots to 10000 feet, then 300 knots and 2000 f/m to 15000 feet, 350 knots and 1500 f/m to 20000 feet, mach 0.65 and 1000 f/m to 25000 feet and finally mach 0.75 and 1000 f/m to 30000 feet.This was all done in a single climb (autopilot set to 30000 from the ground up), "stepping" wasn't required to build up speed to climb to cruise altitude. As I got higher the plane's speed increased slower, of course, so a majority of each "leg" was actually flown at a lower speed than what I indicated above (for example, I reached mach .75 at around the time I got up to 30000 feet).Did you remember to gradually increase airspeed AND decrease your rate of climb as you climbed higher?

December 30, 200520 yr Hi,Just did a flight with the Fokker 100 from CYMJ to CYEG at FL 280. The first thing I noted was that, "as delivered", the Fokker 100 is way overweight. I had to reduce the fuel load to 60% and payload to 9000 lbs to be within limits. With this fuel weight, I had no problem climbing to FL280 (I was still climbing at about 900 fpm as I approached FL280).BTW, the Project Fokker is a really nice aircraft - seems to have excellent flight dynamics and the 2d panel is easy to read.Dale Dale
