Alternate airports in Alternate Navigation mode

Hi -

If I fail both FMCs in the PMDG 777, the system beautifully switches to the CDU-based Alternate Navigation mode. However, I still see alternate airports appear in blue on the ND. This happens even when 1000s of miles away from the point where the FMCs failed, so they can't be one of the 20 alternates present in the FMCs at the time of failure. Shouldn't uploading of alternates be inactive once both FMCs are down?

I appreciate any insights.
