increase in fps when p3d window not active

Hi all,

I have a very weird situation.  I am running p3d v4 with the hotfix.  I just installed the latest pmdg 777 (sp1).  My specs are : 16gb ram, 980ti, 4790k.  I have 2 monitors with p3d running on one and my browser in the other.

My issue is that whenever I am running p3d and the window is not active (e.g. if I click on the browser window in the second monitor), my fps in p3d increases significantly and it smooths out (no stuttering).  As soon as I click back in the p3d window, the fps drops and stuttering begins.  For e.g. right now as I am typing this message, my p3d fps is a solid 60fps (F11 view).  I can see the immersion effects are smooth and the plane is flying without any stuttering.  As soon as I click back into the p3d window, my fps drops to 25-35fps and the stuttering is very apparent.  Anyone has any ideas what may be contributing to this?
