Postsunset and Predawn Texture usage

Here is a question for those smarter than I.

I have been trying out the many textures that are available from which are very nice. However it seems P3Dv4 is not using all 10 postsunset textures. It seems to only use the first texture (sky_postsunset2_0) from after sunset all the way to just after midnight which is when the midnight textures kicks in. 

For example I like Set Rime (sky_postsunset2) textures as this gives a nice long sunset and I use Set_MyVFR midnight textures for a darker night. Problem is that after the sun sets there is no gradual change to darkness. I would have assumed these 10 postsunset2 textures are used for a gradual darkness (I think) but I only need to change the first texture in the group (sky_postsunset2_0) which effects the entire evening lighting until the Midnight textures are used. (around midnight)

Anyone have any idea if P3D uses all these textures as time passes from say texture 0 to 9?

I'm guessing my question is as clear as mud.
