Boeing - Autopilot Switching

Featured Replies

I notice in the PSS 777 that even when the autopilot is switched off manually, the master caution light and clangers go off. Is this SOP for Boeing or is there any way that the pilot can switch off the AP as a conscious decision without setting off the alarms

John, how should the system know if disengaging the autopilot actually was a conscious act? What if some kid on the jumpseat pushed the button while you weren't looking.;-) And I'm sure that the autopilot disengage alarm will not increase the workload as the pilots know (or at least should know) it will go off.CheersThomasP.S.: I think this thread belongs to the Hangar Chat.;-)

ThomasThanks. This forum as I had hoped that someone with LDS/PMDG Boeing experience could confirm their switchery or that one of the Boeing drivers who regularly contribute would come in.Agree that, if it was necessary, a discussion of the whys and wherefores of autopilot design would be better in another place.John R
