smooth VC mouse panning - possible ?!

>if you look at the trackIR>videos it looks almost like subpixel accuracy in panning,>really smooth, like the head latency effect in active camera,Probably the reason why TrackIR is better than the mouse, it's because TrackIR samples head movements with its own hardware, indipendently from the PC, at 120 fps, than the readings are damped, filtered and written directly to FS2004 memory area, without passing through the mouse interface.I don't think you can match TrackIR performances with the mouse, although I find Active Camera quite good. Not as good as the TrackIR, but still reasonabily smooth.

>if you look at the trackIR>videos it looks almost like subpixel accuracy in panning,>really smoothTom,I have not looked at trackIR videos; but I own one and use it every time I fly in FS2004. If videos you are referring to show perfectly smooth panning with trackIR - then let me tell you - whoever recorded them has had a LOT of practice in making steady, precise movements with their head ;-) I'm not saying trackIR is bad. Quite the opposite; it's awesome. Worth ever penny I spent on it. But it sure does take a LOT of practice to get real good at smooth panning and especially - making small movements and stopping precisely where you want and holding perfectly still; still enough for example to adjust frequency on a radio... I'm still working on it and getting better ever time I use it. But it does take practice. You don't get the ultimate feel of realism and freedom to look around for nothing; it takes practice (trackIR really is the best thing for looking around in my opinion; unless you happen to work for NASA and can get a hold of high resolution VR goggles ;-)Thanks,Michael

virtually: a common pc mouse has like 200 hz refresh rate (via ps2 and more via usb) and about 2000 dpi and more, although if i set down my mouse speed i should get even higher resolution in relation to my screen resolution and should be easily able to select every single pixel of my screen.michael: thanks for that information. my reasons for not getting trackIR is mainly that i dont sit always in the same position to fly. im on a chair , or sofa or in bed ;) i althouth dont wanna move that much , hehe. but when im near my desk i want to have smooth panning with my mouse. i think the only problem is the smoothed transfer of the mouse coordinates into fs9. so with every mouse movement we move the head in certain degrees according to the recent zoom level. if we could make these steps smaller and apply some niceley damped acceleration (inside fs9, not windows driver, cuz thats ok already) that would make a big diffrence i guess.regards, tom.

You should post the question in the FSX forum.

But it is a great little device. As for your concerns with flying position - I shift in my chair W.HILE I fly all the time. But all you have to do is hit F12 and trackIR re-centers on your new position (each time you hit F12
