Visual Differences with FSAA and AF

Featured Replies

hi,ive been playing mostly without FSAA(full scene anti aliasing) and AF(anisotropic filtering)....now i switched to 8xFSAA and 8xAF and there are quite heavy diffrences.- Ground Textures blend in almost unnoticed but blend out very rough- autogen doesnt blend in smoothly with alpha fade anymore, it just pops in- clouds (ASv6) look softer but although less crisp on wispy cloud set- clouds have stronger and more highlights (look brighter)- you can see a lot more detailes on aircrafts, like the wire on the tail of the carenado 182 rg II- no autogen tree flickering anymore- when you zoom into tele range the ground textures look still smooth and not as pixelated as without AFso whats the bottom line, allover the game looks more smooth and it looks more real because you dont see any rough edges or pixels, but i miss the crisp ground textures now, adding sharpness +2 on the graphic cards driver doesnt help that.what are your favourite settings with FSAA, AF and other tweaks ?regards, tom.( shot with FSAA and AF http://pixelcandy.tomyeah.com/index.php?showimage=48 )

Have you tried other AA settings? I find 4x suits me just fine. R-

It also depends on your hardware and the resolution you run in FS. I've got a pretty fast system and graphics card, but since I'm using a 20" LCD at 1600x1200x32, I only run 4x FSAA and 8x AF. When I had a smaller monitor and ran at 1280x960x32, I used 6x FSAA with 16x AF.

im running in Mode=1680x1050x32 on my 24" LCD, 8xFSAA and 8xAF with 512x512 clouds and visibilities 59 nm (ASv6), 100mi (sightdistance fs9), 80mi (clouds draw distance fs9). framerate locked at 25 fps, every visual setting maxed out, even in big storms it never goes below 24 fps.regards, tom.

Personal preference reigns, but at that resolution, you should be able to turn down the FSAA. That should get you back some frames without much loss of quality. 8x FSAA is pretty high even on lower resolutions.
