March 2, 200620 yr I've decided to fly around the world (don't hold me to it) in Alphasims catalina. I decided to start from Southampton ( good idea I thought with it being a flying boat), and so far have reached Lanzarote. Via Jersey, lisbon, Casablanca and Mackaresh. The plan is - having had fun flying around the Canaries holiday spots (buzed a few cruise ships!), to move down the African coast and then across the rainforest and Mombasa. From here across the Indian ocean via Saycelles, Maldeves etc. I'd like to get to Thailand before thinking where to go next.Few questions,1/ Please feel free to recomend areas to go via, things worth seeing etc. In the general vacinity of the disignated route.2/ With it being a sea plane I'm looking for places drop in. Lake Victoria is my only current idea so please help.3/ Incase anyone from Alpha sim is reading (since I'm witing this) is there a way to have stairs or anying open/appear on the side for land landings. I'm finding it difficult to climb down via the open window after every geared landings! :)ThanksJames
March 2, 200620 yr I'm presently doing a RTW with an A320. Started in Costa Rica, went to Rio de Janeiro, then to Ghana, then to Dhahran, Saudi Arabia, then to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, then to Cairns, Australia, then to Rarotonga, and that's where I am right now. All that's left is Easter Island and back to Costa Rica. 25,000+ nm.I am not sure where you are going to "drop down" thru Africa, but you might consider going over to Israel, the Dead Sea, then turning south toward Aquaba, and then go down the Red Sea, hugging the Saudi coast. Then cut across mountainous Ethiopia, (good sights) and then on to Mombasa. There's something about desert mountains that I like.Or, you could fly down the Nile, then to Ethiopia and across the Mombasa. Be sure to check out Kilimanjaro, and get a screenshot of that.My previous RTW was in a Mooney and it went all over :)Speaking of water landings, Lake Van in eastern Turkey is very scenic to land in. Africa has some nice lakes too, like Tanganyika.Rhett Rhett 7800X3D ♣ 96 GB G.Skill Flare ♣ Gigabyte 4090 ♣ Crucial P5 Plus 2TB
March 3, 200620 yr Hi there, globetrottersWell, there's not much going on in Africa, it seems, fs-wise. Still, Jim Keir has made some great files for the continent. I'd recommend you get his landclass files (afrilc.zip), his Rift Valley (naivasha.zip)and Tanzania files (tanzania.zip) and try to incorporate those areas into your trotting.Happy flights!-dasher7
March 3, 200620 yr Thanks for the replies just what I was after. Off to dowload some files now. I am suprised how far you can fly on one tank in the cat, although at 140ks where ever that may be seems a long way away upon take-off.Anyone else please kep it comming!James
March 3, 200620 yr 140? Economic Long range cruise for the Catalina is 90 knots! I remember seeing a documentary on Discovery Wings about the Cat where it was nicknamed something because it took off, cruised and landed all at the same speed!Allcott
March 7, 200620 yr Much as I have come to detest the damages to our only world from, among other things, aircraft, my motto is "don't pollute, simulate!".I never heard of economy cruise in FS ;)cheers,-dasher
