Dynamic computer generated aircraft

Featured Replies

Hi everyone, I am a newbie here, so sorry to ask what may be a simple question, but can anyone explain how to modify FS2004 so that the computer generated dynamic aircraft are using authentic or genuine aircraft liveries instead of the default such as pacifica airlines etc..

Oh dear dear dearAnother one who is going to spend all his time fiddling with AI until he does no flying at all.....There are packages you can BUY to short cut this, Ultmate Traffic http://ultimatetraffic.flight1.net/ , MyTraffic is another http://mytraffic2004.comDon't have either, so can't make a recommendation. Here are a couple of reviews:http://www.avsim.com/pages/0206/Traffic05/Traffic05.htmhttp://www.avsim.com/pages/1202/mytraffic/mytraffic.htmlhttp://www.avsim.com/pages/0603/ut/ut.htmAlternatively, JSKorna has correctly pointed you to Project AI, which has airline packages and an installer - and the big advantage of being FREE!In all these cases, the aircraft provided probably aren't the absolute best in terms of appearance or the load they put on your system. You could look at these websites and think about replacing the aircraft you get with the packages with these as and when you have time!http://www.ai-aardvark.com/http://www.evolveai.com/index.htm

What if all I want to do is replace the default aircraft's textures with existing airline textures and have them called by the correct call sign by ATC?I have found the textures, but I don't understand enough about AI/ATC to get them called by the right name. Thanks,Thomas[a href=http://www.flyingscool.com/FC_StartJava.html] http://www.flyingscool.com/images/Signature.jpg [/a]I like using VC's :-)

There is a file in the Flight Simulator/Aircraft/Boeing 737 (etc) folder called aircraft.cfgThere are also folders calle texture.1, texture.2 etcNow suppose you wanted to show Delta 737'sFirst, download a repaint for the default Boeing 737 in Delta colours (if you can find sucha a thing in the library.Extract into a folder called texture.delta Within the aircraft.cfg file, for each aircraft, are 2 statementse.g.texture=1atc_airline=LandmarkEdit those to saytexture=deltaatc_airline=deltaThat will replace the Landmark aircraft with a Delta onePlease note the atc_airline=delta statement depends on FS understanding "Delta" as a callsign. This has to be very precise, because FS is looking up a sound file to say "Delta" - if you put "Delta Airlines" it won't find it.You can look callsigns up on http://www.airlinecodes.co.uk/This is an excellent program which will give you many more callsigns, and indeed allow you to make your owneditvoicepack31.zipHowever, believe me, this isn't the way to do it.For one thing, you are likely to see the Delta 737 all over the world, when you know it couldn't carry enough fuel to get that far!Take JSK's advice in preference to that and go to Project AI, get a few airlines you want to see in the area you fly in and install them. It's automatic (or nearly so), it's free, and it will be much better than what you are proposing!

Hi Paul,I should have added..... there are two files at the site I gave you that will remove the default GA traffic or the commerical traffic. These do not touch the planes, but the traffic files. Then from that same site you can pick and choose the airlines you want to have. Some other points:Project AI is free.Project AI is fast.Project AI is automatic.Project AI material can be easily removed. With Project AI there is no need to modify files, find other models, add skins, or understand traffic files. If you want to learn all this, that is fine, but it is not necessary. Some will say the planes look like beeeep and frame rates are eaten up like crazy, but I have every model and every flightplan installed and I can do it all again in about an hour and have great looking traffic and great FPS.Edit: I will add that EditVoicePack is also a great add on, so that ATC calls the planes by their correct names!Hope this helps,Jimhttp://www.hifisim.com/Active Sky V6 Development TeamActive Sky V6 Proud SupporterHiFi Beta TeamRadar Contact Supporter

Thanks Jim, i'm looking at it now. If you say the GA traffic or commercial traffic files are removed when using the PAI, can this package easily be uninstalled? Do I need to backup the GA traffic or commercial traffic files? If so, what files should I backup?

Hi,Only if you download the one or two special files for doing so.Go into your Scenery/World/Scenery folder and back up this file: traffic030528.bglThat contains all the default traffic.Hope this helps,Jimhttp://www.hifisim.com/Active Sky V6 Development TeamActive Sky V6 Proud SupporterHiFi Beta TeamRadar Contact Supporter

Well, I have tried PAI before, and it just seemed too much of a bother to me. It seems I have to load load a bunch of AFCADs, and with all the airports I have downloaded and used, I don't want to have to go around checking each AFCAD and modifying it. And really, the default traffic is ok with me. But I would rather have them called after real names. I'm not looking for much if any accuracy here, I'm a GA pilot and don't spend a lot of time at big airports. Maybe someday, but not at the moment. And I wouldn't notice that they flew forever as you noted above. Most of my flights are around the Northeast US anyway, from New York to the Maritimes. To be honest, my machine is pretty slow, so most of the time I turn AI off, as I have found its performance/importance ratio is pretty high for me. But sometimes I like to turn it on for a little atmosphere.I suppose I'll investigate a little more eventually.Thomas[a href=http://www.flyingscool.com/FC_StartJava.html] http://www.flyingscool.com/images/Signature.jpg [/a]I like using VC's :-)

Yes, I used that once. It worked excellent. It was easy to use and made a ton of traffic for me everywhere I fly. Except I didn't realize you had to be careful which models you use. My performance went to zero. But I know if I took some time and was careful with the models I chose, I'd jump all over that program.Right now, I'm so involved with scenery design and aircraft choosing I just don't have the time necessary to properly learn and do the AI. As I noted, it's a hobby all unto itself. Thanks,Thomas[a href=http://www.flyingscool.com/FC_StartJava.html] http://www.flyingscool.com/images/Signature.jpg [/a]I like using VC's :-)

Don't need to do that either, Project AI has Project Afcad within it, can download and install hundreds of Afcads for big airports all over world in one go

That's the point. I think you have to do that in order to use PAI, and I have lots of airports I would rather NOT have replaced by PAI AFCAD's. Given the lack of standardization of AFCAD names, it's not always easy to find all the duplicates.I think, for me, it's a lot of file management for not a whole lot of bang since I rarely turn on AI anyway because of the performance hit. I'd certainly love to have a lot of good AI traffic, especially on ATC (which GATraffic gave plenty of), but I just don't have the computer to support it and have the scenery sliders maxed (which is more important to me than AI).Again, this is only my current opinion. Regarding the quality of PAI models, I have no problem with that. I'm there to fly my own plane. I enjoy looking at the scenery, but usually the AI is in the distance. In fact, I'd rather have all DXT3 textures.Thomas[a href=http://www.flyingscool.com/FC_StartJava.html] http://www.flyingscool.com/images/Signature.jpg [/a]I like using VC's :-)
