March 17, 200620 yr Hi Everyone.Hope you can help with some suggestions. All of the sudden all my airports now have a raised deck around it.They all looked like they are being build on a Mesa just like that famous one at Sedona.I have FS Global Mesh(I think it's 76m) intalled and other areas has Justin Tymes 38m mesh as well.In FS9 config the Terrain Max Vertex Level is set at 21.Is this an issus with FS and add on mesh or can it be fixed. It's really hard to land properly when the elevation is several hundred feet off, not to mention that it really kills the immersion factor.
March 17, 200620 yr It's the result of using addon mesh. Some addon sceneries can cause weird elevation issues too if they were designed for a different mesh. The default airport elevations are set for the default mesh. (Or at least they're supposed to be. There may be some that are off even with the default.) If addon mesh has the same area at a different elevation then the airport will appear to be raised/lowered. You can go and edit the airports to change their elevation or make a big flatten to raise some of the surrounding terrain to make it look less unnatural. Or you can ignore it. There is unfortunately no quick fix for this other then going back to using default mesh. Don't recall seeing any that were several hundred feet off. I've seen some that were off enough to make an otherwise boring airport a challange to land on though."Let me help you out. You're cleared to taxi any way you can to any runway you see."

March 19, 200620 yr Author Hi,I also have the FSGlobal mesh, and it actually happens very seldom (2-3%) that the airport altitudes are not correct anymore, compared to the more detailed mesh. This gives the result of the "carrier" or the "coffin", depending whether the runway is higher or lower than the surrounding terrain.I found the way to correct the airport altitudes by using 2 different softwares that you can find on the web : FSFlatten (it creates a flattened area for which you can specify the perimeter and the altitude) and JABBGL (it modifies the altitudes of runways and other airport elements).FSFlatten can be found on www.fs-traveler.comJABBGL can be found on Jacky Brouze's site (but in French)So, every time I prepare a flight, I take a look at my destination airport, and, if necessary, I adjust the airport altitude : it takes 15 minutes to do it when you get used. But, again, it happens only on 2-3% of the time and it is worth spending that extra time, and keeping the fabulous 76m mesh all over the world !Alain
