March 21, 200620 yr The weather setting in USER DEFINED WEATHER, which I reach through the Customize weather button; or is it the Visibility button in Settings/Display/Weather? I am confused about this. Is one of these a "master" visibility setter? At present, I have 80 miles visibility in the Display/Weather window but the user defined customize weather window says "Unlimited." Which do I have?Appreciate guidance here, thanks!JS Jonathan Sacks Dell XPS Gen 4, Pentium IV Northwood extreme 3.8Ghz, 3Ghz RAM, eVGA 7900 GTO, 12 GoFlight modules plus MCP-PRO AP and EFIS, GF pedestal, CH rudder pedals, CH throttle quadrant, 42" LG LED, 24" DELL LCD, Windows XP, FS2004, FSUIPC 3.96 FS Autostart 1.1 (Build 11), FS Navigator 4.6, UT, FE, GE, REX, PMDG, Level-D, PSS, etc.
March 21, 200620 yr I use the Custom weather to change winds and visability. In the Settings/Display/Weather I max out the visability and cloud draw distance is 60 miles.I also use JohnCi's Soft Horizons addon available here. Just do a search. Even with custom visability at max, the horizons are very realistic, doing away with the too sharp horizon. It's especially nice at 12,000 and above. Try iy, I think you'll really like the effect.Bob
March 21, 200620 yr Hey, Bob, thanks for posting and also with an interesting suggestion. March 22, 200620 yr And I prefer a vis of 30mi, to me it looks more realistic. The air in Southern California is just not that clear that you can see further. Even when there is no smog, there is a lot of haze from moisture, especially along the coast.
March 23, 200620 yr Wait a minute, you mean 30nm in the air? Surely one can see more than 30nm at, say, 10,000 or 20,000 feet? Even in smoggy Southern Cal...?!JS Jonathan Sacks Dell XPS Gen 4, Pentium IV Northwood extreme 3.8Ghz, 3Ghz RAM, eVGA 7900 GTO, 12 GoFlight modules plus MCP-PRO AP and EFIS, GF pedestal, CH rudder pedals, CH throttle quadrant, 42" LG LED, 24" DELL LCD, Windows XP, FS2004, FSUIPC 3.96 FS Autostart 1.1 (Build 11), FS Navigator 4.6, UT, FE, GE, REX, PMDG, Level-D, PSS, etc.
March 24, 200620 yr You may be able to see more than 30nm in the air, but you cant see the ground... most days, especially before 10-11am.Some days you may be lucky enough to see 1-5 miles.
March 24, 200620 yr In the advanced weather settings you can adjust the altitude of the visibility settings from ground level all the way up. Generally however for lower levels visibility of 20 miles is considered quite good. I just checked the visibility for most of the US and right now except for a small area in the extreme southwest visibility is between 8-12 miles.
