Newbie question

Hi guys new to this so excuse this question.can i start a flight on the runway and not at the gate

Yes.  If you just want to fly, that's a way to do it.

Assuming you have Filed an IFR Flight plan, you would make the following calls:

1) Clearance Delivery <CallSign> ready to copy.

2) Ground, <CallSign> ready for departure runway xx;  Ground will transfer you to tower.  Be sure and use the runway you're on and that any SID you have is for that runway.

3) Tower, <CallSign> ready for departure.

Basically you can just leave off the Pushback and Taxi calls and all should proceed normally for any flight type.
