Geforce 1080 requires active or passive DP adapter?

Recommended Posts

Happy Holidays!

So unexpectedly my trusty ol' GeForce 780 finally bit the dust (actually not that impressed as it only lasted 3 1/2 years).  So I had to make a quick Xmas present for myself and picked up an EVGA GeForce 1080 SC.  Can't wait to see how she performs in P3Dv4.

I am running three 27" 1080 displays.  One will use the HDMI, 2nd will use the DVI.  For the 3rd I have to use one of the display ports.  Can I get by with a "passive" DP-2-DVI adapter or must it be "active"?  Any first-hand accounts appreciated.
