Roads and Airports

Featured Replies

Funniest thing; I just spent a few hours moving all the seaplane bases in New England so they are in the water with UT/USA. As I was doing this, I found an airport (ME79) with a road running right through it. Thinking it was a candidate for moving, I went to Terraserver to check it out and see where it was supposed to be. Turns out that a road actually does run right through the airport :( and FS had it in exactly the right place. Those Mainers, convention just goes right out the window. Who woulda thunk it.Thomas[a href=http://www.flyingscool.com/FC_StartJava.html] http://www.flyingscool.com/images/Signature.jpg [/a]I like using VC's :-)

Hi Thomas,If you have Google Earth, take a look at 32 43 33.42N 117 10 53.44WIt's the Coast Guard Ramp next to Lindbergh Field in San Diego. If you zoom in you can see a road that crosses N Harbor Drive from the ramp area to the approach of runway 27 at Lindbergh (KSAN), and if you look very close you can see the shadow of the traffic lights that stop the traffic on N Harbor Drive.Years ago when I flew on Hu-16 Grumnan amphibiens with the Air Force Reserves, we would do takeoffs and landings in the salt water of San Diego Bay and then taxi up on the Coast Guard ramp to wash the airplane off with fresh water. Then they would open a gate accross the ramp and turn the traffic lights red to stop cars and we would taxi and take off on runway 27. Sure messed up peoples commute and got a lot of strange looks. :-)Regards,Ed Weber a.k.a tallpilotI'll be darned, went and checked and FS got this right too. (Except no traffic lights at the street but there are street lights)

Hey Ed!I was probably one of the kids in a car at the stop light! I remember this well-along with fond memories of the Cornado ferry we had to take when we lived there to the mainland(before the bridge).http://mywebpages.comcast.net/geofa/pages/rxp-pilot.jpg

Hey are you trying to make me feel old? (Big 70 next month) :-(It was only 44 years ago. How's the Baron doing Geof? When are you going to make it out my way? We've always got an extra room here in Havasu if you don't mind sleeping in a room that Pork sleeped in. (Or was it Lindy). I'll even spring for dinner. :-)Ed
