Crashes

Featured Replies

I see another post about crashes, I thought I would start another. (Sorry)Strange crashes, yesterday was the G3d.DLL, and one today was the ATC.DLL. I just reload continue my flight and all is fine. This is a pretty new installation not too many add-ons just alot of the more popular add-ons. I dont feel there is any fix for this just wondering is there are any others that have this annoying problem. I hope FSX is little more stable even though I probably wont switch until many of the add-ons being used now are switched to FSX.

I know what you're writing about. My FS9 worked really nice for a 6 months and all of a sudden, I get all kinds of crashes in several dll's (panels.dll, g3d.dll, etc...)Worst thing is that they're completly un-predictable, the screen goes black and then after a while, i get this dammn message asking me to send the crash info to MS and restarting FS9.I'm really upset, I'm a very careful person concerning new installations and modifications, I know what I'm doing (computer-wise) and I'm not a compulsive tester of addons... even then I have to go through all these ####!Please if anyone has a clue on how to extract some useful information from the crash window... please let us know.

Andrew,How long have we all been simming...? I guess it would be clear to us all that neither Windows or Flightsimulataor are 100 % stable. So yes... crashes...But you are right. They are very inconvenient (and frustrating) on final approach after some ten hour flight and there is nothing you can do about it.Often the only really helpfull advise is to reinstall everything from scratch (of is that from crash...?).And that takes time... or doesn't it.Even for the carefull people out there, there is a possible protection. Not to prevent the crash, but to limit time when you do need a reinstall.I am using a program called Acronis but there are others on the market. How does it work? You start by installing everything you really want installed. (OS, drivers, Flightsim, must-have addon's...)After that first complete install (which will take time of course), do a defrag of the HD's. And then make a complete image of your installation and save it somewhere save (even on a DVD if you don't have any spare harddisk space available).Creating that image takes time too but it has its advantages. When you start feeling that windows or Flightsim starts acting weird, you can restore the image and start with a complete clean installation. And there is another plus that I found. By using the same OS over and over again, you don't need to reactivate a number of addon's because they will recognise the installation as the one they were activated on in the first place...When you intend to do a complete reinstall, invest in some time to create such an image... it is worth it. (I did a reinstall three times last weekend because of some faulty installation of realityXP gauges and without my imagefile, I couldn't have done that)I really hope you can sort your crashes out.Luc 'Glaudrung' BrusselmansBelgium
