AI Aircraft Sounds -- Recommendations?

Featured Replies

Greets, all:I've got all my AI working beautifully; however, there's something I'm missing.I've always wanted some better sounds for my AI aircraft; the sounds that I currently have (the default sounds, I would imagine) all sound so muted. When I'm in a GA plane sitting in queue on the tarmac and there's a 767 in front of me, I should be hearing some louder sounds. Instead, it's so bloody quiet. Can anyone recommend an "AI Sound Pack" that's good?

There is a file here at AvSim named ba_ai.zip by Mike Hambly for FS2002 that works well for me. Probably will be OK for FS2004, but I have no way of knowing. At the "other site" (FltSim), I searched for "AI" under the category "FS2004 Sound" and got 11 files, including a set by Aaron Swindle. Some of the other files were jets only, while a few seemed to cover all types.Give some a try and let us know if they proved to be what you were looking for.Regards,JerryH

JerryH:Thanks for the heads-up on both Mike Hambly's set as well as those you found at that "other" site.I'll take a look and try some of them out; I'll post back with some findings as well. Thanks again!

Don't (as I did) overlook the fact that, in Settings > Sound, the "Environment" slider controls the level of AI sound (among other things).Martin

this one is the best, you even hear reversers!!aisound_1.01.zip

>Don't (as I did) overlook the fact that, in Settings > Sound,>the "Environment" slider controls the level of AI sound (among>other things).>>MartinOh god, oh god, oh god, oh god, oh god.....D U H!Checked my environment slider... had it at 10! That certainly explains the 'muted' sounds when doing exterior viewing. I canNOT believe I missed that. geez. Thanks for this one!Well.. I still ended up replacing my AI sounds anyway, and settled on "aisnz2.zip", a file at that "other" site as well as a place called fsdome.com (lots of popups there, so be careful). The pack was made by Aaron Swindle of Skysong Soundworks, and after careful selection, I found his files sounded better to me than all the other packages. No reverser sounds as one of the packages another poster mentioned in this thread, but all the rest sounds really great. Thanks again for all the help in this thread. Off to take my anti-stupidity pills. :)

I've pretty much tried them all and still I look for the elusive holy grail of AI sounds. I may even be forced to record my own next time I'm at the airport. Currently I'm using a carve up of many different packages.aisound_1.01.zip is probably the best, but what I miss is that really low rumble as you sit at the runway holding point and watch the aircraft in front of you start it's take off roll. That's what's missing right now.

Regards,

Max
