Nose sinks through runway on landing

Featured Replies

I have read many times 'you are coming down too fast.' But assuming I am not (I touch down at c.155kias in a 777-200, sink rate of c. 250ft per min, slightly flared and then once the back wheels have made contact, ease the nose down - SO gently), is there anything than can be done to fix the runway? I presume it IS the runway at fault - Ho Chi Minh City, 26R I think (the one with ILS), ICAO=VVTS. If I make a touchdown anywhere much short of a third of the way along, the nose disappears and I am in flames. Further up than that, I can land fine. I have tried a dozen times and end up wanting to scream! (Funny how it gets to you, isn't it?!).The AFCAD I have for that aiport at the moment is Ultimate Traffic generated. (F1UT_VVTS.bgl)Or could it be the plane? It seems to land OK elsewhere.Thank you,Martin

This has happened to me with the Meljet model. Ive looked at it in replayand noticed it slams the nose down on touchdown rather hard sometimes causing a crash. Make sure you are not too heavy (fuel). I always try to keep the nose up with a little up elevator with this plane. If it occurs only in one airport then the scenery may be at fault. I have nice freeware scenery of Kansai (Japan) that I have to turn off crash detection when I fly there or else I crash into an invisible building in the middle of the runway.

I have also looked at what happens in replay - and the nosewheel touches gently enough I think. I certainly makes a great effort with the yoke so that it does. Also seems that if I land further down the runway the problem disappears. Both airports I landed at yesterday gave me this problem, which is odd.I may well just switch off crash detection once and for all. A bit of a cheat, but after a long flight, the plane going up in flames on touchdown puts me in a bad mood for the rest of the evening!!M. :-)
