May 21, 200620 yr How can i get fs9 to display different aircraft with various airline logos on the ground at an airport. I've seen this in screenshots from users, is it to do with AI traffic, if so i'm not really sure how to change the aircraft and liveries or is a special program needed to do it?Thanks everyone !Darren
May 21, 200620 yr There are two main ways of achieving what you ask. The first and easiest way is to buy a third party addon which does the job for you. All you have to do is install the product et voila there's your 'real' traffic. The second, and in my view much more absorbing, and enjoyable way is to do it yourself and it's free. Firstly though, you have to learn how to do it, but once you have, you'll find mountains of free files from great freeware AI aircarft models and liveries, flightplans and AFCADS (the latter create more parking spaces at airports) to the appropriate software to enable you to integrate all those models, liveries AFCADS and flightplans into FS. For freeware, apart from all the material that's available in the Avsim library, check out Project AI, http://www.projectai.com/, http://www.evolveai.com/ and http://www.ai-aardvark.com/, to name but a few. The freeware route is quite a subject to get your head around but worth it I think. If all that sounds too much, get your credit card out and try Ultimate Traffic: http://ultimatetraffic.flight1.net/ or FS Traffic: http://www.fstraffic2002.com/. Can't vouch for the payware as I've never used it but no doubt someone will chip in hopefully?
May 21, 200620 yr Uh oh, careful mate, lest you become an AI addict like I did!! I use Ultimate Traffic for the easy interface. You can use its utilities to add in better quality paints (aardvark, evolve) than what it comes with. The models it comes with aren't the best quality and can smack your FPS in the mouth. I also recommend downloading the world of ai packages that can be found in the file library here. There are tons of resources to be found here and at other sites, just have to do a little searching. Good luck and happy AI-ing!
May 21, 200620 yr Thanks for all the info, i'll check it out and see what i can do to make the airports more life-like, really didn't know there was so much to the world of AI.:-)
May 21, 200620 yr Oh yes, Jeremy is right. . . .very addictive!:-) and I should have remembered, again as Jeremy pointed out, World-of-AI. Wherever possible, they use the best AI models available.
May 23, 200620 yr Hi, i've downloaded some ai aircraft from ai-aardvark and got TTools to break down the traffic database file but i can't find the 3 text source files to edit on my system so i can get the ai planes to show up! I've done a search and can't find them? Can anyone help out, thanks.
May 24, 200620 yr First off, I recommend getting AI Traffic Mover to help manage files if you are gong to create your own AI traffic. For now you can leave the default traffic bgl file alone.First step is to download a flight plan set for the airline/carrier you are interested in. They will generally include the 3 text files you need. With traffic tools installed, run the collect airports utility to obtain a new master airports.txt file. You can use this instead of the airports file included in the download. The important file is the aircraft file. It contains a list of aircraft used in the flight plans. Here is an example from IcelandAir plans which were just uploaded to AVSIM:// IcelandairAC#6691,200,"Icelandair Boeing 757-200"AC#6692,200,"Icelandair Boeing 757-300"AC#6693,200,"Icelandair Boeing 767-300"These files are formated for auto install purposes, but the important thing is the name in the quotes:"Icelandair Boeing 757-200"For the plans using this aircraft to work, you must have an aircraft installed in your FS9 aircraft with a title=Icelandair Boeing 757-200line in it. There isn't any requirement that this aircraft actually be a 757-200, or have Icelandair textures, but of course you will want one that does. You either need to edit the appropriate aicraft.cfg file or the aircraft.txt file (or both). I strongly recommend that you use a logical naming scheme. For example, I use titles such as:AIAv2 Icelandair B752 GE noreflwhich would be an Aardvarks ver 2 with GE engines and nonreflective texture model. There are other equally valid methods, some may work better with auto installers.Once you have the master airports and edited aircraft files, you can use ttools to compile the 3 files into a traffic bgl file. You can have a traffic bgl for each airline, though I guess if you have too many it could have a performance hit.scott s..
May 24, 200620 yr Airspace, The three text files should appear in the same folder as your traffic tools application. As mentioned above, once you've got the hang of the basic process, get AITM and explore the possibilities of this tool I personally couldn't manage without it. Good luck
May 24, 200620 yr Thanks a bunch for helping me out :-) i've really got lots to learn but first gonna get AI Traffic Mover.Darren
