Weird Problem

Featured Replies

So I bought RC the other  day and finally had a chance to get it loaded but ran into some problems. The first was the MSSTDFMT.dll problem which I resolved pretty quickly (thanks to all the other posters here). So I fire up RC, find a flight plan in this case (KVCB-KMRY). Just a kind of check out flight. I fly mainly the Baron 58. So I know that I'm at an uncontrolled field, so I select option 2 to get my weather brief from FSS (menu option 2) and the phone rings and weather comes through (Yeah I'm on my way). Call FSS for clearance (menu option 4) and clearance comes through. Now the weird part. I didn't have time to actually do the the flight due to work, so I shut down my computer. I got back later restarted the computer and accomplished the same procedures only this time when I select menu item 2 for FSS or menu item 4 for clearance, nothing happens. I've tried different key strokes by changing, the keyboard in RC but nothing happens. So I uninstalled RC, did another install, and again everything worked. I shut the computer down, restarted RC and the same problem returned. I tried going to another airport with a different flt plan, but that didn't work either. I made sure I had FSX running prior to starting RC and did a pretty thorough reading of the manual, but no luck. Any suggestions? I'm running Win 7 64, box FSX Deluxe, with FSUIPC 4.937. Any help is greatly appreciated.

First update to FSUIPC 4.972. Hard to fathom what’s going on when it just stops responding. Have you installed RC in a protected area like Program files x(86)?

If so, uninstall and just try it in C:\RC4.

Initially I had installed it in outside of program files x (86) and I had the problem, so I thought maybe it required it to be installed in the default location. I'll try uninstalling RC again and updating fsuipc as you suggested.  Incidentally, I noticed in the file structure there are 2 folders. One called rc4 the other rc4z. Is that normal? The rc4 folder only has the Uninstaller and a couple of files. The rc4z folder has the executable and docs, Winwood folder etc.

Thanks for the support. I'll post back the results.

You should only have an RC4 folder. I’d move everything from the z one into that and delete z.

Updated to fsuipc 4.972, and did a complete reinstall of RC. RC still created a folder rc4z, did as you said, copied everything to c:\rc4 and deleted the rc4z folder. Ran installer as admin. Problem seems to exist only when attempting to receive a brief from FSS. When I loaded a number of different flight plans that started at an airport with a frequency to dial in, I could get weather and clearance. When starting at an uncontrolled airports, where you have to call for your clearance and a wx brief, the menu selections would not work. Any ideas?

Also, is there a way to prevent the FSX ATIS from also operating in the background?

And last question, Am I correct in assuming that if I just want to fly VFR but just want flight following, I would still have to create a VFR flight plan in RC for it to work? I noticed the start RC button is greyed out without a flt plan so I'm assuming that for RC to interact with FSX it needs the flt pln to set everything up

Unfortunately I rarely tested the VFR side of RC4 so you may have to wait for someone with that kind of experience to reply, sorry.

The ATC slider in FSX can be reduced to zero to kill the default ATC but you must leave it enabled.

Yes, RC relies on a flight plan irrespective of the type of flight otherwise it doesn’t know anything about where you want to fly.
