March 15, 20188 yr Hey, I'm loving the MD-80 so far. It's a nice contrast to something more modern like an A320...it's old enough to require some effort, but not so old that it's incomprehensible. It also makes me appreciate the improvements / simplifications that MDD made for the 717 (using TFDI's). I have a few questions about navigation related topics - - As far as I can tell...there's no way to have VOR pointers on the electronic nav display, correct? I see the dial on the left that can put ADF needles on the nav display, but nothing for VOR's. So I assume folks would just use the old fashioned RMI for VOR needles? - I do see RNAV approaches listed on the FMC (using the Navigraph database). I assume it probably will fly an RNAV approach with only lateral guidance in the sim (just manually controlling the V/S rate like you would on a LOC or VOR approach). But is that something you could actually do in the real world with an MD-80 equipped in this fashion (using the LNAV only minimums?) Or in the real world would a MD-80 with this configuration not actually be able to do RNAV approaches at all? I assume it could legally do RNAV SID's + STAR's? - With the fix page on the FMC, is my understanding correct that the MDD cannot display "range rings" on the nav display like more modern Boeing / Airbuses can do? - When putting a direction in degrees on the fix page, I expected it to show an actual line from the fix at that heading on the nav display. Instead I just see the numbers, but no line (screenshot: https://imgur.com/a/Zxmw7). Do other people also see this? And if so is this potentially a bug? Edited March 15, 20188 yr by imemyself
March 15, 20188 yr Hello Yes, only ADF needles on ND. MD80 is not approved for RNAV and RNP approaches. SID / STARs can be flown in P-RNAV which is perfectly within limits in terminal airspace. FIX page is incapable of range rings, only radials. Which brings me to your next issue, no actual radial displayed. I have seen it aswell, but sometimes I do get my desired radial on the ND. Devteam might have to look into this? EASA PPL SEPL + NQ / CB-IR in progress MSFS24 | X-Plane 12
