Do I need an upgrade to GE Pro?

Featured Replies

Well I thought I did but after reading the publicity release on AVSIM this morning I'm confused."Flight One has both Ground Environment Professional and Ground Environment Standard available. Ground Environment Standard edition will be for users that do not wish to have advanced customizations of the ground textures and sky environments. The Professional version offers the advanced customizations, weather interface, and additional texture expansions for parts of Florida, Miami, Hawaii, Puerto Rico, the Caribbean, Asia, and other parts of the Tropics."As I can't see myself ever using the advanced customisations & weather interface offered by GE Pro for the occasional flight outside Australia (I do most of m flying in Australia and am very happy with VOZ) is there any point upgrading to GE Pro? Bruce,If the screen shots of GE PRO aren't doing it for you or the comments the new PRO users are makeing, good and bad, then I strongly suggest in your case don't upgrade.Stick with GE standard.GE PRO does look a lot different, especially over mountains and forests, deserts, rocks all of which are eveywhere. There is a lot more attention to detail and I'm sure you are aware screen shots rarely do the in flight experience justic but even so you have always been a cautions buyer and for that reason I would think for you play it safe and keep your money.Where some people can get excited and passionate about things, like I can, as can Anthony and Carl we are all different. Some people fall in to the category where a) they don't see or naturally appriciate details so easilly and :( comments people make are filtered out to read more in to things that there may in fact be.Some people pick up on posititive things and comments while ohters pick up on the negative things. But, Bruce, if the many posts saying wow I like GE PRO, it's a must have will not convince you and you also can't see the improvements in the screen shots then GE PRO is 100% not for you. You can only be dissapointed; and one thing I hate the idea of is a customer of GE who is sufficiently happy with his GE package is to upgrade to PRO and not feel he has either a wow factor or any value for money.I am very greatfulu and thankful you purchased GE.

Thanks Peter but the publicity release seems to be saying that what GE Pro adds over GE Standard is the advanced customisation, weather interface and some new tropical textures. Are there any other differences between the two versions?Bruceb

Hi Bruce, yes there are, there are ALSO new highly detailed textures for deserts, forests, mountains, grasslands, foliage and rurals for Europe. For a full list of features and specifications go here:http://environments.flight1.net/gepro/gepro2.htm

Thanks that now makes it all pretty clear. In my case then I have to decide if it is worth a further 30 AUD for enhanced textures in particular areas that I only fly in occasionally. While the other features of GE Pro are certainly innovative I can't see myself ever using them.Bruceb
