Mic is very low volume

I used my mic last night.  It's attached to my sennheiser headset.  It's just the regular 3.5mm jack.  Tonite I went to fly on pilot edge and all they could hear was a ambient static or something.  I reinstalled my mobo drivers and I can at least hear myself now.  I use Windows sound recorder and playback the recordings.  But the playback volume is super super low.  Even if I turned on +10dB boost it's still difficult to hear with the reciever volume up. I haven't changed anything from last night to tonite other than a driver reinstall. 

Any thoughts?
