Using own FS9 screenshots on website - allowed?

Featured Replies

Hallo Simmers http://www.clicksmilies.com/s0105/aktion/a...-smiley-030.gifWould be grateful for your input on this matter. Are you allowed to use your own FS9 screenshots on your own website? Its just that Im learning how to create a website etc. and I want to make it a little wannabe aviation site - using screenshots from FS9 as illustrations. But Im not sure about all this copyright business etc....are you free to use screen-captures from the sim on a website? Or is that a no-no.For example I want to have a "My favourite jets" section and show iFDG A320, Posky 767-400 etc.Silly sounding question I know but I wanna make sure! Thanks :)

I can't quote law for you but in my opinion you're free to decorate your website with screenshots from any game. The obvious no-nos are game or add-on betas where you're under a strict NDA, but that's not the case here. Obviously you also shouldn't hotlink images from someone else's server on your site, but as you mentioned in your post you'll be using your own screenshots which no doubt will be stored on your webhost's server. As long as you don't mislead the visitor into believing the game, planes or other items shown in the pictures are your doing (except for those that are, of course!) you should be fine. As a gesture of good will you might want to mention the developers who created the game / planes / repaints / add-ons and perhaps provide a link page with links to their websites. As I said though, this isn't the law - this is common sense.

Thank you both for your input. Yes, I definetly plan to give the planes creators credit as well as providing links to them!Using FS9 for illustration wipes out the hassle of looking for photos (and asking for permission to use them) at one stroke! And yes all screen-captures will be 200% mine and mine alone :)
