September 3, 20187 yr Not as spectacular as John Muir's 'Range of Light' but an interesting flight non-the-less. Idaho Falls ID to Spokane WA (Felts Field). Again set up a VFR GPS route and let the autopilot do the driving while you enjoy the scenery. It's about a 2 hour flight (in my Quest Kodiak at an IAS of 184 knots). Set AP altitude at 10,500ft. Starting out over the farm lands of Idaho Falls and a bit of high desert you soon start flying over the Bitterroots. Once you hit the mountains you will notice they are older mountains, well worn down, heavily forested, with 'V" shaped valleys indicative of water erosion. About halfway through the flight the mountains flatten even more and you will see logging roads and clear-cut areas and some areas of reforestation. Orbx did a very good job here too. Timber is a big industry in Idaho. About 15-20 minutes from Felts Field you will see Lake Coure d' Alene to the north. Better start slowly letting down. When you see the approach path for Felts Field on your GPS turn north to intercept it. Standard approach to an easy landing. Noel The tires are worn. The shocks are shot. The steering is wobbly. But the engine still runs fine.
