add-ons.cfg - two of them?

Recommended Posts

I've realized that  I have two add-ons.cfg files on my system. One is located in: "C:\Users\ADMIN\AppData\Roaming\Lockheed Martin\Prepar3D v4" the other is in "C:\ProgramData\Lockheed Martin\Prepar3D v4". Is this normal?

The first one contains most of my add-ons including FlyTampa, FSDT, Flightbeam, A2A, ... . The second contains.SODE and my Aerosoft/Simwings titles.

I would expect that only one add-ons.cfg would be enough.

Hi,

there are two because there are two different kinds of add-on.xml "methods"

  • the add-ons.cfg file in \AppData\Roaming lists those addons that are in the autodiscovery folder \Documents\Prepar3D v4 Add-ons\. It is rewritten every time something changes in that folder
  • the add-ons.cfg file in \ProgramData\ contains the references to content that has been installed with the command line tools of P3D (and where the add-on.xml can be anywhere on your computer instead of \Documents\). It is only rewritten when an installer adds or removes one of those addons through the CLI.

Which one a developer chooses is up to them. Both methods have pro's and con's.

Best regards

Thanks, Oliver. I've assumed something like this. Now it is clear.
